What You Will Do:

The Development Associate, Alumni Engagement supports the goals of the Advancement Department at National Louis University (NLU) by ensuring the integrity and cultivation of relationships with members of the NLU community. Reporting to and supporting the Director of Alumni Relations, the Development Associate will be a key member of the Advancement team building relationships among NLU's alumni community. The Development Associate is responsible for alumni-driven activities including volunteer management, alumni programming and communications. Working closely with the Advancement team, they will be expected to provide innovative strategies for increased alumni connection, identify and cultivate future volunteers and donors, and provide overall support of the alumni relations program goals.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Work with Advancement colleagues and NLU faculty and staff to generate compelling and engaging content and provide production assistance for numerous cultivation, engagement and stewardship channels, including, but not limited to: alumni magazine; alumni newsletters; social media; alumni portal; alumni website; and event invitations.
  • Partner with the Institutional Advancement Coordinator on event and meeting management for alumni relations (e.g., professional learning, panel discussions, networking, class reunions, awards ceremony and regional events) including, but not limited to: vendor and venue management, invitations, registration and RSVP tracking, nametags and communications.
  • Administrative and project management including coordinating and supporting all Alumni Association Board meetings, and committee meetings including preparing meeting materials, coordinating meeting logistics with board members and maintaining, updating and storing Alumni Board materials; assisting in the planning and execution of the alumni awards and alumni mentoring programs; developing and maintaining project/event timelines, from conceptualization to execution; vendor management; organization of shared files; manage the alumni email inbox and respond to inquiries as appropriate; assisting with data entry, administration for alumni record updates; and analyses for alumni relations ROI dashboard.
  • Conduct prospect research on individual alumni prospects and donors, to devise and execute strategies for class reunions, regional events and visits, cultivation, and stewardship. Supports reporting efforts assessing the ROI of alumni engagement strategies and activities. Manages research related to alumni strategies and benchmarking between alumni classes.
  • Maintain multi-year alumni engagement calendar for alumni board activities, events, communications, alumni awards program, alumni mentoring program and alumni social media posts. Provide assistance on Advancement team projects as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, nonprofit management, or other related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in alumni relations and/or donor relations, communications, customer service, or other related field.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and confidently with colleagues and senior leadership at NLU.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to Advancement colleagues, donors, volunteers, faculty, and staff.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and good judgment, and the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Prior knowledge and familiarity with fundraising databases and email marketing, preferably within a Salesforce environment.
  • Results-Orientated: Achieves results within established timelines. Understands and demonstrates that intentions, activities and results are not the same. Expects that obstacles will occur and refuses to use them as an excuse for not achieving results.
  • Analytical Thinking: Breaks down problems and issues into sub-components and then assesses the costs, benefits and risks of various options prior to selecting a particular approach.
  • Project Management: Manages each stage of a project to ensure that commitments are met in a manner that is timely and within budget. Clearly defines roles and responsibilities, determines necessary resources, and monitors project performance through appropriate systems and procedures.
