The Opportunity

This position works onsite out of our Willis Tower location in our Public Affairs Division.

The Senior Communications Specialist will help execute and sustain an external communications workplace strategy for Abbott, one of the worldâs leading healthcare companies. The senior specialist will also play a key role in generating content about Abbottâs innovative benefits and programs for the companyâs external website and social channels, and assisting with media relations in this area. This position requires an enthusiastic team player who excels in a fast-paced environment and who is a creative storyteller with experience developing compelling storylines for traditional, digital and social channels. This person must be detail oriented, highly organized and an excellent writer with an understanding of the news business, media trends and general workplace topics.

What Youâll Work On

  • Collaborate across divisions to help develop thoughtful, strategic content for owned channels and earned media, especially related to workplace topics and corporate reputation that position Abbott as a premier company and employer globally.
  • Assist with daily monitoring of workplace platform Glassdoor, including ensuring timely response and reporting as needed.
  • Keep a pulse on the latest workplace trends.
  • Help build and write our annual Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Report.
  • Evolve and manage a comprehensive workplace recognition list using a strategic approach.
  • Cultivate an understanding of and develop relationships with media and social media influencers related to workplace topics.
  • Must be a strong teammate who:

Position Accountability / Scope

  • The senior specialist will report directly to the Senior Manager, External Communications.
  • Ability to come to the companyâs headquarters in Lake County, Illinois when needed.
  • Readiness to travel 10%+ annually.

Required Qualifications

  • 4-6 years of experience in journalism and/or media relations, with an understanding of how to use external communications to enhance reputation.
  • Excellent writing skills, with an eye for proofreading and grammar. Reporting/interviewing skills are preferred.
  • A creative, critical and original thinker.
  • Strong analytical and superior judgment skills.
  • Team-oriented individual with a strong sense of ownership who can develop strong relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Occasional travel.

The base pay for this position is $72,700.00 â $145,300.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
