Job Description Summary

The Assistant Director of Community Engagement manages community engagement programs and supports the development of strategic community partnerships in the Office of Civic & Community Engagement (OCCE). The Assistant Director serves as the primary manager of The Campus Kitchen at Wake Forest University, Kids Cooking Coalition, and Summer Nonprofit Immersion Program (SNIP). In addition, they manage the recruitment, selection, training, reporting, and operations for Public Health AmeriCorps.
Job Description

Essential Functions:

Program Management

Serves as program manager and point of contact for Campus Kitchen, Kids Cooking Coalition, Summer Nonprofit Immersion Program (SNIP), and Public Health AmeriCorps (PHA).

Manages food safety and risk related to The Campus Kitchen at Wake Forest University and the Kids Cooking Coalition. Ensure student leadership teams are in compliance with best practices related to food safety, van certifications, and protection of minors.

Advises student leadership teams for Campus Kitchen and Kids Cooking Coalition.

Coordinates Request for Proposal (RFP) process to select community host sites for Public Health AmeriCorps and Summer Nonprofit Immersion Program.

Recruits, selects, and trains participants for Public Health AmeriCorps and Summer Nonprofit Immersion Program.

Updates member policies and procedures, service agreements, and handbooks for Campus Kitchen, Kids Cooking Coalition, PHA, and SNIP.

Develops internal systems to coordinate member files, reporting forms, time sheets, and background check processes.

Develops and manages partnerships with community-based organizations in the areas of public health, food security, and nutrition in Winston-Salem, NC.

Training and Education

Designs and facilitates onboarding, orientation, training, and professional development sessions for student participants.

Designs and implements orientation for community host site supervisors.

Advises student leadership teams to develop programming for Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week.

Conducts informational sessions about community engagement programs.

Serves as an ambassador for Give Pulse, a volunteer management platform, and trains students to utilize the software platform.

Evaluation and Reporting

Conducts site visits and program evaluations for community engagement programs.

Manages member reporting, including submission of time sheets, quarterly and annual reports, and service highlights.

Tracks food weights and donations to the Campus Kitchen. Submits monthly reports to Second Harvest Food Bank.

Develops tools to track and measure performance indicators for programs.

Makes data-driven decisions to develop and improve community engagement programs.

Writes articles, briefs, annual reports, etc. to share the impact of community engagement programs.

OCCE Teamwork

Represents the OCCE at community and university functions.

Participates in OCCE activities, meetings, and committees.

Leads Turkey Palooza cooking and fundraising efforts during the fall semester.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Public Administration, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, Higher Education, or related field, and 1-3 years of relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

Outstanding administrative skills, including organizational planning and development.

Progressive experience related to program management and evaluation.

Knowledge of national service programs.

Ability to independently plan, manage and meet competing deadlines for multiple projects with minimal supervision.

Ability to work well with multiple constituencies including faculty, staff, administrators, students and community representatives.

Flexible, adaptable and skilled at balancing multiple tasks and works well under pressure.

Experience in developing community-university partnerships.

Ability to supervise others.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Master’s Degree in Public Administration, Social Work, Nonprofit Management, Higher Education or related field.

Direct experience with AmeriCorps or similar federal grant program.
