The Role

This is a Laboratory-based position that you will contribute to in the novel small molecule process development group with unique program specific guidelines and priorities. Primary responsibilities will be analytical method and material characterization contributions. You will have ownership of analytical focused priorities within the process chemistry team. Support of the process chemistry group could include direct generation of key data sets, as well as on the job training and guidance to team members and partner groups.

It is expected that the candidate will contribute to continuous improvement activities related to analytical and material characterization priorities within the group.

Heres What Youll Do

Provide direct oversight and ownership of analytical method and compound characterization priorities that are most critical for the process chemistry group

Troubleshoot, collaborate, and execute in various aspects of equipment and coordination with other internal groups that are also users and stakeholders of the groups custom small molecule products

Act as the group lead SME to stay aware of the state of the art for analytical method and characterization priorities by interacting regularly with various up-stream and down-stream development teams and maintaining awareness of the industry and academic standards

Some hands-on contribution to preparative-scale purification activities may be part of the role from time to time

Additional duties as may be assigned from time to time

Heres What Youll Need (Basic Qualifications)

Novel therapeutic small molecule development involving analysis and characterization of lipids, small molecules, proteins, nucleic acids, and hybrid molecules

Basic maintaining and troubleshooting of various standard analytical equipment such as HPLC, GC and LC/MS

Authoring of technical reports and SOPs

Effective communication with and presentation of data in group and project meetings is essential

Training of personnel as needed on a variety of methods or instruments, including UPLC and other key analytical equipment

Coordination with various internal partnering groups is essential with some semi-regular travel to other local research and development sites

MINIMUM Education: BS

MINIMUM industry or equivalent experience: 2 years

Heres What Youll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

Extensive instrumentation knowledge for chromatography, detection, and characterization techniques such as: UHPLC, SFC, GC, IC, MS, MS/MS, CAD, UV, ELSD, NMR, FTIR, XRPD, etc.

Familiarity and some experience with diverse and complex instrument problem troubleshooting, repair, and qualification

Contributes to process safety related evaluations with knowledge of related tools such as: DSC and TGA

Familiarity and some experience with purification instrumentation at preparative scale such as reverse phase and ion exchange chromatography
