Job Description Summary:

The George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs (ESIA) is one of the world’s leading schools of international affairs. The Elliott School seeks a motivated individual to be the Faculty Affairs Coordinator. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, the Faculty Affairs Coordinator typically provides support and assistance to process faculty appointments and faculty personnel actions. The core responsibilities of this role are to code and track appointments, generate letters, track compliance with hiring actions and documentation, process relocation reimbursements, assist with sabbatical notification and calculations and other employee leave actions, assist with the faculty merit process, and to coordinate with the central GW Faculty Personnel Office, University Faculty Affairs, and the HR Information Systems team to ensure proper procedures and quality control of data. This position will also investigate and resolve non-complex issues relating to faculty appointments such as pay, salary, job assignment, title, appointment letters, etc., and will respond to requests for information. This role may also provide assistance for faculty searches and other general administrative support.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Coordinate with Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs to support the faculty recruitment, hiring, appointments/reappointments, promotion and tenure processes.
  • Be familiar with ESIA GW bylaws, faculty handbooks, University Faculty Affairs Office regulations, and procedures related to position, and how to apply the policies and procedures and explain them to others.
  • Collaborate with ESIA academic programs and central University Faculty Affairs to provide support for new faculty searches and appointments including shepherding the process through the Human Resource system, posting advertisements, supporting the search committee, arranging logistics for campus visits, and visa compliance as necessary.
  • Organizes faculty meetings including scheduling, catering, and coordinating the agenda.
  • Manages recordkeeping for the Faculty Affairs portfolio and supports communication with faculty.


Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

This is a hybrid position with some days in-person and some days remote.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
