DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS


Strandberg Engineering is a 24-person structural engineering firm located in the heart of the diverse and lively Mission District of San Francisco. We enjoy working in a collaborative environment, bringing architectural visions to life, and coordinating creative solutions during design and construction.  

 

Strandberg is currently seeking a full-time, in-person Director of Operations to join our team. The Director of Operations will work closely with Project Managers to support the team of engineers in all aspects of the firm’s operations, including the firm’s financial management, human resources, marketing, and business development. We are seeking an individual who will collaborate with our talented staff on established and new procedures and bring energy and enthusiasm as well as problem-solving experience to the firm’s operations.   

 

Below represents the areas we would like the Director of Operations to oversee in the order of importance and greatest need. Some of these areas may require hiring an outside consultant to be managed by the Director of Operations, but familiarity with all these areas is crucial to the Director of Operation’s position. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: 


Financial Management and Accounting 

  • Handle Accounts Payable and Receivable, including the timely preparation of invoices and coordination with Project Managers for monthly billings. 
  • Implement weekly and monthly procedures to ensure accurate timekeeping and expense reporting. 
  • Collaborate with Project Managers on reports and procedures for effective project budget and schedule management. 
  • Assist in proposal and contract preparation, as well as the initiation of new projects. 
  • Oversee coordination with payroll services, manage cash flow and budget, and liaise with the accountant. 
  • Complete annual insurance applications and negotiate terms. 
  • Manage contracts for office operations, including consultants, reprographics, leases, and supplies. 


Human Resources 

  • Lead the firm's hiring and recruiting efforts, welcome new staff and acquaint them with office procedures. 
  • Administer the firm's benefits package, including health care, 401k plans, and paid time off. 
  • Support in conducting annual reviews and maintaining the firm's handbook to ensure fairness and compliance with legal requirements. 

 

Marketing/Business Development 

  • Enhance the firm's public presence through PR, marketing, and business development initiatives. 
  • Coordinate marketing projects, manage social media presence, and organize photography of completed projects. 
  • Evaluate the need for external consultants in marketing, graphics, or PR, and oversee workflow between consultants and staff. 
  • Manage the marketing budget and support Project Managers in business development efforts. 


Operations/Project Management 

  • Collaborate with Project Managers to establish firm-wide procedures that enhance efficiency and information flow in staffing, schedules, budgets, and staff training. 
  • Coordinate with IT consultants, manage the IT budget, and assist with facilities issues as needed. 

 

Qualifications Include 

  • Minimum of ​10 ​years of relevant experience in an engineering firm or related design profession. 
  • Bachelor's degree preferred. 
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks (or similar accounting software) and preferred experience with Project Management software. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. 
  • Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment, with strong prioritization and multitasking abilities. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is beneficial but not required. 
  • Authorization to work for any employer in the U.S. 

 

This position will be full-time with a salary and benefits commensurate with the candidate’s experience. Pay rate range below is based on approximately 10-13 years of related experience. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the California Pay Transparency Law.
