Job Description:

 

The Health & Safety Director develops national health & safety programming consistent with the company’s strategic objectives and health & safety departmental goals to advance a world-class safety culture. The Director partners with operations and corporate resources leadership to execute, implement and enforce health & safety requirements across the enterprise. The Health & Safety Director has supervisory responsibility for all safety professionals in their assigned region(s) and is responsible for resource allocation.

Responsibilities

  • Works with Operations leadership to assess H&S needs and incorporates into departmental goals and growth

  • Has overall control of resource allocation and is ultimately accountable for the team's success

  • Empowers and develops current and future managers to effectively support their teams

  • Drives cultural change and continuous improvement through the development and execution of a comprehensive H&S program aligned with corporate policies and guidelines

  • Continuously assesses safety knowledge and performance company-wide and participates in the evaluation process related to H&S performance

  • Recommends and follows-through on training to close gaps, ensuring skills are aligned with position requirements

  • Develops and executes departmental goals

  • Evaluates hazard and incident data to identify trends and creates focus on corporate H&S needs

  • Evaluates corporate compliance with federal, state, local, corporate and client H&S regulations and procedures

  • Identifies and addresses H&S needs and challenges associated with future work across regions and business units

  • Evaluates subcontractors through the subcontractor onboarding process and establishes/approves risk mitigation plans as appropriate.

  • Regularly analyzes and interprets inspection and incident data to identify corporate H&S trends, and makes recommendations to address them

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and influencing skills, with the ability to inspire and mobilize cross-functional teams, build strategic partnerships, and drive cultural change and adoption of innovative H&S practices.

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental health & safety, engineering, or a related field

  • Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive leadership experience in H&S roles, with a proven track record of driving innovation and achieving breakthrough results in safety performance across diverse industries.

  • Demonstrated thought leadership and active participation in H&S professional networks, with a proven track record of publishing thought-provoking insights, speaking at industry events, and driving collaborative innovation initiatives.

  • Professional certifications such as CSP or CHST are desirable.

This position reports to and receives direction from the Vice President of Health & Safety. Health & Safety Directors are expected to work from the office and project jobsite(s) as necessary. This role is based out of our regional office in Atlanta, Georgia.
