Come work with us We are social and environmental scientists who make the world a better place by working with energy and mining clients in high-risk environments. Our team has the challenge and opportunity to support our clients amidst community opposition, environmental liabilities, energy transition initiatives, and shareholder activism. Our growing business is looking for a talented, motivated, and passionate Consultant (Level II) to join our innovative high-performing team. We work two to three days a week in our Houston office and 2-3 days a week from home with some opportunities for work travel, as allowed per project. Following the first year of employment, we have unlimited Paid Time Off. We are a collaborative team that supports each other as we deliver work for our clients. We take our work seriously and enjoy a fun casual work environment. 


Job Summary:

The Consultant II will have 5-10 years of experience in environmental or social performance consulting and lead a team to deliver according to client expectations including management of scope, schedule and budget of projects. Will also conduct detailed analyses, develop content for Social and Environmental Baseline and Impact Assessment studies for a diverse range of clients.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • As a project team leader, conduct site assessments, identify potential environmental and social risks and opportunities.
  • Effectively and efficiently develop reports as deliverables for clients.
  • Lead environmental and social projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Develop relationships with clients to become dependable consultants.
  • Consistently deliver high-quality consulting services, maintaining responsibility for leading complex tasks and up to moderately complex (generally not multi-phased or multi-year) projects.
  • Start to develop reputation as widely recognized and respected environmental or social performance assurance subject matter expert with broad fungibility and knowledge/promotion of Acorn International mission.
  • Periodically contribute to industry knowledge through subject matter articles and speeches/panels. 
  • Support management and development of key client relationships resulting in growing trajectory of repeat business.
  • Stay current with environmental regulations, sustainability practices, and industry trends.
  • Manage and approve project invoicing and collection of payment from client.
  • Apply technical knowledge to develop innovative solutions for complex environmental and social performance challenges.
  • Supervise data collection, analysis, and interpretation to inform project decisions and recommendations.
  • Assist clients in navigating impacts to the environment or community.
  • Represent the firm at industry conferences, meetings, and public forums.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Skills & Abilities:      

  • Effective time management and organizational abilities, including use of Microsoft Office, Teams, Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated use of SmartSheet, Forecast, Harvest.
  • Proven project management skills, with experience leading and participating in complex environmental projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret and apply technical data.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy. 


Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Environmental Science, Engineering, Environmental Policy, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in environmental consulting or a related field.


Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

 

Must have authorization to work in the US if not a citizen.
