Overview

We invite you to become an integral part of our esteemed hospital team as an experienced Operating Room Nurse in Stamford, CT. You will play a vital role in delivering exemplary patient care in compliance with State and Federal guidelines, while fostering a culture of excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Preoperative Assessment: Conduct thorough preoperative assessments of patients, taking the time to review their medical histories, perform physical examinations and ensure all necessary preoperative tests and clearances are completed.

Patient Care Planning: Collaborate closely with the surgical team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals, to develop personalized care plans for each patient, considering their unique needs and medical conditions.

Intraoperative Assistance: Provide direct patient care during surgical procedures, prioritizing patient safety, comfort and overall well-being. Assist with patient positioning, draping and maintaining a sterile field.

Instrumentation and Equipment: Prepare and maintain surgical instruments, equipment and supplies required for procedures, ensuring everything is readily available. Monitor and address equipment needs promptly to ensure optimal functionality.

Sterile Techniques: Adhere to meticulous aseptic techniques, maintaining a sterile environment in the operating room. Strictly follow infection control protocols and uphold the highest safety standards.

Medication Administration: Administer medications and anesthesia as directed by the anesthesia provider, carefully ensuring accurate dosages and thorough documentation. Monitor patient responses to medications and promptly report any adverse reactions.

Communication and Collaboration: Foster effective communication with the surgical team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists and other team members, to facilitate efficient and coordinated patient care. Maintain clear and accurate documentation of patient records, procedures and interventions.

Patient Advocacy: Serve as a dedicated advocate for patients, always ensuring their rights and preferences are respected. Provide compassionate emotional support and educational guidance to patients and their families, addressing any concerns and fostering a positive surgical experience.

Postoperative Care: Monitor patients in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) or recovery area, diligently assessing their vital signs, managing pain and ensuring a seamless transition to the next level of care.

Continuous Professional Development: Embrace opportunities for continuous learning and growth, staying updated with the latest advancements in surgical techniques, equipment and perioperative nursing practices. Actively participate in educational programs, conferences and professional organizations to enhance your knowledge and skills.

 

Qualifications

To excel in this role, you should meet the following qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.

Hold a valid Registered Nurse license for the state of Connecticut.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is highly desirable.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is a prerequisite.

Minimum of 1 years OR experience in an inpatient setting required
