POSITION TITLE: TERRITORIAL DIRECTOR OF CORPORATE ENGAGEMENT

STATUS: EXEMPT - FULL TIME (HYBRID) 

PAY RANGE: $125, - $140, annually

SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

Provides leadership and strategic oversight of the corporate engagement program across the USA Western Territory maximizing success with major corporate gifts generation and renewal and ensuring consistent growth in income from corporations. Collaborates with internal stakeholders to expand and scale existing corporate relationships to meet broader geographic interests and increase support of The Salvation Army. Pursues, develops, manages and stewards new major corporate funding relationships within the territory for The Salvation Army on a regional, multi-city, territorial and national (in sync with NHQ) basis, in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders at all levels, including officer leaders, development professionals, leadership volunteers and professional consultants to increase support of The Salvation Army’s critical programs and services.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE :

Minimum bachelor's degree required. Five or more years of experience with professional fundraising and corporate partnerships, with strong documented track record of success. Success with securing corporate gifts at a six-figure or higher level.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and follow-up for successful closure of gifts. Strong and effective interpersonal and persuasive skills, modeling effective relationship management and demonstrating emotional intelligence / situational awareness. Excellent strategic assessment, planning and creative proposal development skills. Skilled in developing collaborative approaches in harmony with local Army stakeholders for win (local) – win (corporate) – win (territory) results. Ability to effectively work toward and monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of on-going plans and budgets. Knowledge of cause-marketing and product tie-in best practices and how to effectively apply such options to dialogue with prospective corporate funders for the Army’s benefit. Ability to apply knowledge of Army policies and procedures and ability to communicate and follow accurate interpretation of the same. Ability to travel as necessary to carry out responsibilities and assignments. Ability to be a driven self-starter and innovator; to work independently with a minimum of supervision, while working collaboratively and cooperatively under the direction of department and territorial leadership. Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment while effectively managing multiple competing priorities. Team player, engaging effectively and respectfully with other staff for accomplishment of organizational and department goals. Experience managing staff directly and providing leadership to geographically distant team members remotely. A fundraiser at heart, able to successfully engage with corporate decision-makers and leadership volunteers through cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activity. SOFTWARE-RELATED SKILLS :

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Lotus Notes. Experience with PC’s and networking. Experience with donor data management software. Familiarity with prospect research tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Pursue new major corporate funding across the territory in collaboration with divisions and other territories and the national CRD office (when necessary). Develop a strategic plan to significantly increase corporate giving across the territory over the next five years. Develop through research a qualified list of top corporate prospects in the territory whose interests extend beyond local communities and develop communications and solicitation plans and goals for each prospect in sync with various stakeholders (including divisions) and in keeping with corporate interests. Serve as primary relationship manager, in collaboration with divisional fund raisers, of an assigned caseload of corporate funders whose interests extend beyond a local or divisional area to regional or national involvement. Identify and recruit key board members (local, national), major donors and executive volunteers across the territory who have strong corporate leadership connections, to help with door-opening and scheduling appointments with key corporate decision-makers, working with assigned relationship managers. Plan and execute workshops, trainings, and conference sessions for divisional corporate fundraisers. Regularly share relevant trends and corporate sector news with corporate fundraisers in the field and provide ongoing learning opportunities. Participate on national corporate roundtable and/or other task forces to provide leadership and direction related to Corporate Engagement. Continually refine corporate reports and tools to assist corporate fundraisers in the field to be more efficient and effective. Work with the Divisional Directors of Development to help support their management of divisional corporate staff members including help with interviewing, hiring, onboarding, annual review input, recognition and troubleshooting other issues. Monitor divisional corporate fundraiser performance and work with team members individually as guided by (and in partnership with) their direct supervisors to ensure they meet and exceed goals and KPIs related to the program. Provide strategic guidance to the divisions as requested related to significant C-suite relationships, funding opportunities and corporate grants. Work with divisions to support successful local corporate fundraising approaches generally through capacity development and resources and training. Develop effective corporate briefing materials, proposals and reports for tailored use with each corporation and which can be replicated and then customized locally. Solicit corporate gifts for regional, territorial or national initiatives that match specific corporate philanthropic and co-branding interests. Solicit advantageous cause-marketing, product tie-in and point of purchase agreements that generate publicity and significant funding for Army programs, within Army branding guidelines and corporate partnership standards and in collaboration with appropriate internal stakeholders. Work with territorial and divisional program and CRD staff to develop stronger volunteer program tracks specifically for corporate volunteers. Work with territorial donor (data) management staff to develop and to ensure effective, optimal use of Portfolio across the territory for corporate relationship management and tracking. Solicit pre-disaster partnerships with major corporations for commitments to provide grants, point of purchase donation opportunities (to customers), internal employee donation drives, pro bono advertising or consulting, technology, equipment, personnel and/or in-kind resources in the early days of major disaster response. Solicit major corporate funding partnerships for multiple Kroc Centers or other multi-location categories of Army service (eg. camps, after school education programs). Network with philanthropic decision-makers through key events, affiliations, meetings, and other communications. Serve as participant on leadership team for any future territorial capital / endowment campaigns or projects in regard to corporate prospects. Facilitate improved corporate donor / gift stewardship communication practices at divisional levels through idea-sharing, tactical advice, setting of standards, support through development of content and materials, teaching how to do leadership briefings or site visits, templates for communication calendar planning, social and digital media strategies, engagement through volunteer opportunities, etc. Work with divisions to develop effective peer to peer network approaches for accessing major corporate funders through teaching list review and how to do preparatory briefing memos, how to develop targeted strategies, etc. Other related duties as assigned by the Territorial Executive Director of Development
