About Thompson Creek Mine

The Thompson Creek Mine is a primary, surface molybdenum mine and mill located approximately 48 kilometres southwest of the town of Challis in Idaho's Custer County.

In operations since 1983, the mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods with large electric-powered shovels that can each move up to 100,000 tons of waste rock and ore per day.

Thompson Creek Mine promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.

About The Opportunity

We are looking for an  Operator, Fire, Water and Environmental Compliance  to join our Thompson Creek team. The Operator, Fire, Water and Environmental Compliance is responsible for the core elements of maintaining environmental and maintenance functions for Thompson Creek Mining Company, including the operations and general maintenance of the Water Treatment Plant, environmental compliance and documentation of daily checks, fire inspections checks, and overseeing site security. The Operations, Fire, Water and Environmental Compliance will report to the Mine Operations Supervisor.

The candidate must have previous experience in the mining industry and strong teamwork, communication, self-motivation with limited supervision, and time management abilities.

Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team. Your responsibilities include, but not limited to:

Daily building checks to ensure adequate heat source is functioning, which prevents water pipe rupture. Fire prevention and minimization of damage of mine site and surrounding areas. Site security/trespasser management.  Knowledge of water system routing (esp. 004 to Squaw Creek). Identify leaks in the system that could result in an environmental spill. Maintaining pumps. Ensure a negative water balance is achieved to prevent damage to the tailings storage facility (TSF). Manage compliance with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (AFT) and with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) requirements. Dam inspections. Contractor management.

About You

To qualify, the following skills and experiences are required:

Strong knowledge of Water Treatment Plant process. Responsible for the maintenance of pumps. Knowledge of chemicals, and how to report an incident. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; must have confidence to act in the event of an emergency, and the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner. Experience in the mining industry is a must. Previous environmental compliance experience, highly preferred.
