SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of the Director of Nursing this position provides quality, professional, restorative nursing care and medical oversight to St. John’s Residents. Completes assigned, routine, non-treatment activities, which are pre-determined for each patient by the restorative therapy program to strengthen muscles, assist with mobility, promote independence, prevent functional declines.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Restorative Nursing Care

Assists in the provision of restorative/rehabilitative care to residents as identified and directed by nursing as part of the care plan.  Assists patients with exercise (Active /Passive Range of Motion) to improve or maintain mobility and independence in the resident.  Provides elders with routine restorative care and services in accordance with the resident’s assessment, care plan and as established by licensed nurse with assistance of physical or occupational therapist or speech therapist.  Performs all duties and functions as listed in the Certified Nursing Assistant job description. Assist in transfer and transportation of elders as needed.  Prepare elders, treatment areas, equipment, and supplies for treatment.  Monitors use and condition of adaptive equipment (walkers, reachers, crutches) and assistive devices. Arranges for repair or replacement of equipment as needed. Assists in maintaining therapy area and equipment in clean, safe, functional condition.  Ensure that adequate supplies for treatments are maintained.  Arranges/adjusts restorative schedule according to elder needs for service.  Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Leadership

Coach and educate employees on restorative practices. Offers suggestions and provides input into the development of interdisciplinary plan of care. Serves as a resource and role model for CNA’s. Attends restorative meeting and care plan conferences as directed.  Assists with the process’s development and Quality Improvement

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Communication/Reporting

Performs record keeping according to policies developed by St. John’s United in accordance with State and Federal Regulations Documents care in PCC.  Notifies Charge Nurse of any problems, referrals or reassessments needed.  Reports to the Charge Nurse on any adverse conditions experienced by the elder during the provisions of restorative care including, but not limited to, pain.  Maintain elder confidence and protect facility operations by keeping information confidential. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Dining Services

Assists in the mealtime process, serving coffee, greeting residents, guests, family members. Performs other duties as necessary to ensure a pleasant atmosphere and timely mealtime for all. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Safety

Obeys safety rules of St. John’s United. Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards. Utilizes proper body mechanics when transferring elders. Follows established policies and procedures when exposed to blood/body fluids. Wears and/or uses safety equipment and supplies (i.e. gait belts, mechanical lifts, personal; protective equipment).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION: Employee Responsibilities

Follows policy and procedures on annual TB testing and vaccinations. Attends all mandatory in-services. Attends and participates in scheduled training and educational classes to maintain  Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Requirements: Must be licensed as a CNA in the State of Montana. Knowledge of medical terminology and procedures preferred. 2-5 years’ experience desired. Must complete formal restorative aid training within 60 days of hire. 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities required: 

Ability to understand and express written and verbal communication. Ability to interact effectively and professionally with Elders, family members, coworkers, and other clinical support staff. Ability to work independently and in a team. Ability to lift and manipulate heavy objects. Ability to understand and follow safety policies and procedures. Ability to use various health care supplies and equipment, including blood pressure devices, thermometers, wheelchairs, lifts, and oxygen suppliers, etc. Ability to understand and to contribute to elder charts and care plans.  Ability to relate to and work with the ill, elderly, disabled, emotionally upset, and at times, combative people within the facility. Ability to respond to elder needs in a timely and professional manner, recognizing the Elder’s rights. Ability to deal with stressful situations (i.e. Death and Dying)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires moderate physical work more than 70% of the time, including lifting up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking, and bending for prolonged periods of time.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work involves some exposure to dirt, dust, fumes, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Work involves some exposure to hazards, bloodborne pathogens, or physical risks, which require following basic safety precautions. Normal health care environment. Work involves exposure to plants and animals within the environment.
