Job Summary
This is a position for a Motor Vehicle Operator within the Housing Rehabilitation and Abatement Unit within the Department of Buildings (DOB).
The Housing Rehabilitation and Abatement Unit is responsible for correcting any violations on residential and commercial properties that have been cited for such violations as: excessive grass, weeds, properties that are open and accessible to the public within the community and presents a safety concern and clearing trash from properties that are mostly vacant and/or blighted.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The incumbent for this position works as a Motor Vehicle Operator operating gasoline and diesel powered vehicles with gross vehicle weights of more than 26,001 pounds, capable of carrying loads weighing four (4) tons, , lift gate open body, compactor, or other types of links which have two (2) or more gear ranges capable of providing six (6) or more forward speeds and have six (6) or more driving wheels.
Operator checks vehicles at the beginning and end of shift to ensure equipment is operable and adequate fuel, engine oil, hydraulic oil, water and tire pressure levels are maintained. At the end of a shift, incumbent reports any repair or maintenance needs. Completes daily vehicle and route reports, including transfer station receipts when appropriate, and submits them to supervisor. Operator is continuously alert for pedestrians and obstructions.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Incumbent must possess a valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s Permit/License.
Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (Class A or B) Preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT
Incumbent works outside in all kinds of weather. May be exposed to dust and dirt, uncomfortable ride, the need to twist and turn to obstructions and observe the area being cleaned. Incumbent must be mindful of defensive and safe driving tactics at all times. The incumbent may be subjected to traffic hazards when working in certain areas, such as automobile traffic while walking or standing in streets. Also, the incumbent is subjected to dust, noise, fumes, and the hazards of working with refuse and other conditions as rats and other vermin when entering into some of the neglected residential and commercial buildings.
Incumbent is required to participate in extreme weather condition declared by the agency Director and/or the Mayor of the District of Columbia.
