Job Summary

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Office of the Chief of Operations, Superintendent, House Office Buildings, Client Services Division, Labor and Custodial Branch, Day Labor and Custodial section.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform driving and operating duties on a variety of motor vehicles and equipment.
  • Perform routine laboring tasks when not performing driving duties.
  • Load and unload heavy construction building materials and supplies to and from trucks.
  • Move heavy boxes and cartons by hand, hand truck or dolly.
  • Check accuracy of shipments against packing slips.
  • Deliver supplies to Members' Offices.
  • Assist shop offices' trades personnel by performing duties such as cleaning work areas at the end of the day.
  • Transport tools and materials from shop areas or storage areas to job sites.
  • Follow all relevant safety rules, regulations and standard operating procedures.
  • Utilize knowledge of and must comply with all OSHA and Office of Compliance safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensure the use of any required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Requirements
  • Must be able to pass a drug test.
  • Must possess a Commercial Driver's License with air brake endorsements.
  • Must have a current/valid DOT physical card on file with your local MVA.
  • Must meet one of the categories below:
    • A citizen of the United States;
    • A person who is lawfully admitted for permanent residence and is seeking citizenship as outlined in 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)(B);
    • A person who is admitted as a refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157 or is granted asylum under 8 U.S.C. 1158 and has filed a declaration of intention to become a lawful permanent resident and then a citizen when eligible;
    • A person who owes allegiance to the United States (nationals of American Samoa, Swains Island, and the Northern Mariana Islands, and nationals who meet other requirements described in 8 U.S.C. 1408); or
    • A person who is currently an officer or employee of the Government of the United States.
  • Must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position:
    • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
    • Must possess a valid, unexpired Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brake endorsements.
    • Must current possess a good driving record.
    • Possession of a good driving record is included in the suitability process.
    • Maintenance thereof is a condition of continued employment.
    • Failure to maintain a good driving record will result in termination.
    • Ability to lift, push and pull heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs. or more without assistance.
