Director, Office of Innovation Safety Management

FMCSA develops and enforces data-driven regulations and programs to achieve the highest degree of safety and compliance in motor carrier operations including motor carriers, drivers, vehicles, brokers, service providers, and others; collects and evaluates a variety of safety data to direct and support targeted actions on high-risk carriers in enforcing the safety regulations; conducts outreach to carriers, commercial drivers, other regulated entities, safety organizations, stakeholders and the public, conducts research and develops evidence to support its programs and policies; and partners with stakeholders including Federal, State, and local enforcement agencies, the motor carrier industry, safety groups, and organized labor on efforts to reduce bus and truck-related crashes.
The Director is a strategic and innovative industry leader who will provide technical guidance and advice to advance a range of FMCSA research and technology deployments and innovative data collection initiatives for the Motor Carrier industry. This position will encompass all facets of strategy, rulemaking, regulatory oversight, and business growth through innovation.
The Director provides leadership in setting Agency policy and strategic direction that aligns with the Secretary’s priority issues specific to safety, equity, climate, sustainability and future proofing related to assigned program areas. Advocates quality, technology delivery, appropriate legislative initiatives, innovation, outreach, and consultation. Communicates FMCSA's policies, strategic directions, and priorities internally and externally, and coordinates formulation and execution of intermodal policies with other responsible Departmental units.
