Job Summary

The Budget and Finance Accountant will provide support to the CAS Deans Office Director of Budget and Finance, Budget Analysts and CAS Deans Office Budget Managers. Will assist in fully maintaining CAS commitment record-keeping, journal entry and budget journal transfers and journal entries. Will complete all payroll accounting changes and retros. Will provide support for Director of Budget and Finance with all University Controller Office Requests to ensure responses are made on a timely basis. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma and 3 or more years of experience. Preferred Qualifications Bachelors degree, which may be substituted by equivalent combination of certification, training, education, and/or experience. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Background knowledge of budget and accounting theories and practice. Understanding of financial statement analysis is required. Ability to examine, summarize, and analyze detailed budget and financial data. Background in or ability to learn fiscal, governmental, and university procedures as it relates to budget and finances. Ability to plan and organize work activities and prioritize task completion according to schedules, deadlines, and goals. Ability to coordinate a variety of administrative tasks. Knowledge of or ability to learn USC policies and University accounting software. Knowledge of Excel,and MS Word. Ability to work independently and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Job Duties Job Duty Under the Budget Analyst oversight, make all required payroll accounting changes and retros resulting from a thorough analysis and reconciliation of payroll and fringe transactions for all of CAS, including, but limited to those resulting from correction of errors, summer ECOM, course buyouts, etc. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 25 Job Duty Participate in cross-training so as to serve as a back-up for commitment reporting for the college by fully understanding the commitment process and making all required Budget Journal transfer, Journal Entries, IITs and Deposits as requested by the Budget Analyst. This includes the entries needed in PaperSave to request reimbursements from the Education Foundation. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty Works with Budget Analyst to prepare any required Budget Journals or Budget Entries in connection to College-wide initiatives, including but not limited to, Deans travel and research initiatives, Bilinski Fellows, and IDC Process, Bridge Humanities Corps. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty Assist with the coordination of the collection of data for the Director of Budget and Operations including, but not limited to Controllers Office Requests for information from all CAS units, monthly outstanding P card approvals required, establishing of new general ledger accounts,etc. and ensuring that all are done within deadline and in a timely manner. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 15 Job Duty Coordination of and completing of updates to the Business Manager Handbook maintained by the CAS Deans Office. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 10 Job Duty Contributes to the overall success of the College of Arts and Sciences by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
