Job Description

BIOSCIENCES LIBRARY LIAISON , MIT Libraries-Liaison, Instruction & Reference Services (LIRS), to support departments in biology, biological engineering, and brain and cognitive sciences. Will report to the LIRS department head and collaborate with faculty and researchers, enhancing research support, teaching, and service delivery. Responsibilities include developing outreach strategies, aiding information and data management, teaching critical information skills, and supporting open access initiatives. The role requires ongoing learning in research methods and trends; promoting equity and open science; participation in project teams and the LIRS science and engineering community of practice; and support for diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice is crucial. This position offers the opportunity to shape the future of scholarly information at MIT.

Job Requirements
REQUIRED: advanced degree in relevant disciplines or an MLS/MLIS; at least three years of experience with data and scholarly information in research; demonstrated skills in science and engineering contexts, providing research support, developing outreach strategies, using collaborative research tools, and designing learning activities; support for the Libraries’ commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility; knowledge of biosciences and engineering literature; and strong collaboration, organizational, and communication skills. PREFERRED: experience managing bioscience data sets; familiarity with data cleaning, version control, and reproducible research tools; and awareness of research trends and ethical, legal, and policy issues in science and engineering.
