Job Summary

Dominion Energy Virginia’s Electric Transmission (ET) System Protection Engineering – Generator Interconnects department is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer to support the Company’s growing number of renewables and grid interconnections. The primary responsibilities for this role include creation of interconnection protection requirements, and the development of protective relay settings for our distribution and transmission systems related to generator interconnections. This is an exciting time to join our team as we are involved in industry-leading projects and initiatives like interconnecting 5000 MW of solar generation in the next 5 years and the first utility-owned offshore wind project in United States federal waters off the Atlantic coast. 

Job Responsibilities – Engineer I:
• Learn basic protection philosophy and applications to real-world scenarios
• Produce memos detailing the protection requirements for generator interconnections
• Develop protective relay settings for ET protection schemes inside the substation
• Provide technical assistance to various engineering and field teams to fully develop the protection and control design package
• Provide technical support to conceptual engineering teams, project management teams and ET Field Organization throughout the course of capital projects
• Perform other duties as requested or assigned.

• Strong time management skills with the ability to independently plan and organize work assignments.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing.
• Equally effective with working independently or in a team environment.
• Ability to think analytically and solve complex problems.
• Experience with short circuit modeling software preferred.
• Experience with SAP work management systems is a plus.
• Programming skills for automation of system studies (e.g., Python, .NET, C#, etc.) is a plus.
• Experience with PSCAD and/or RTDS is a plus.
• Ability to interpret codes, regulations, and practices.
• For military applicants: Military service members and veterans with ranks from E3-E5, W1-W2, or O1-O3, plus appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined (above/below).

Engineer I: 0-2+ years of engineering experience (Note: A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications; A an advanced degree can count as one year experience)
• Basic understanding of AC/DC fundamentals, including three-phase power systems
• Basic understanding of the principles of transmission and/or distribution relay protection a plus

Education Requirements

*We are considering upcoming graduates up to December 31st, 2024. 

For placement of a candidate in the Engineer job series, the following criteria must be met: 

Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an ABET accredited Engineering program based on the year that the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or  Possess a 4-year Engineering degree from an institution outside of the U.S. which is accredited through the country's own Engineering accrediting body under the Washington Accord as a full signatory, and is a degree that was recognized by the country's accrediting body on or after the date that full signatory status was achieved, or  Possess a 4-year degree in Engineering (non-ABET accredited), Physics, Chemistry, Math or Engineering Technology and a post-graduate Engineering degree from an institution where the undergraduate degree in the same Engineering discipline is ABET-accredited based on the year the Engineering program was accredited by ABET, or Holds or has previously held a valid U.S. Professional Engineer license.

Licenses, Certifications, or Quals Description

Education: Baccalaureate degree in Engineering or related science(Physics, Chemistry, Math, Engineering Technology acceptable if all other pieces of the third prong of the Required Engineering Criteria listed in KSA section are met).
