What You Will Do:

Responsible for assisting participants with mental illness, drug and/or alcohol diagnosis and/or a physical disability in seeking and maintaining meaningful employment opportunities that match their interests and skills. Provides employment services to participants referred to Firelands Counseling and Recovery Services’ employment program. In addition, the Employment Specialist markets the employment and training services to the community and develops working relationships with local employers to develop and coordinate opportunities for vocational rehabilitation (VR) services to occur within an integrated employment setting. Renders all services within department guidelines and in compliance with rules/standards set forth by Medicaid/Medicare, HFAP, OhioMHAS, CARF, and OOD. Provides and coordinates the full range of services including linking with referral sources and responding in a timely manner; conducting intakes, developing Individualized Service Plans, and facilitating individual and/or group services as appropriate to the population served and under the direction of the Coordinator. Behavioral Health case management services can also be provided to participants who are open to Firelands Counseling & Recovery Services and have case management services (CPST/TBS/SU CM) identified on an active treatment plan. medically necessary. Services are provided and documented per departmental guidelines for these services (CPST/TBS/SU CM). Promotes independence by identifying and meeting vocational goals through active and collaborative participant involvement in initial and ongoing treatment planning. Provides assertive outreach when participants are not engaging into services. Understands the role of Patient Care Standards (PCS) as a measure of our commitment to serving those in need and ensuring that access to care is provided. Ensures PCS standards are met and actively utilizes and responds to strategies provided through supervision when there are challenges in meeting these standards. 

What You Will Need:

Associate’s degree or higher in a behavioral health, vocational rehabilitation, social services or related field is preferred, and the degree must be on the approved list of degrees of the Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities. Experience working in employment-related setting is preferred. Experience working with persons who have mental health problems, drug/alcohol problems or physical disabilities is a plus. Must have the ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the participants. Heartsaver, Aegis Crisis Prevention, and First Aid certification within 6 months of hire. Ability to effectively understand and communicate in both written and oral form. Sensitive to the cultural needs of the individual and/or family served. Ability to be mobile and possess a valid State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license and be insurable under Firelands’ auto policy. Employee must provide proof of personal automobile liability insurance coverage upon request.
