Position Summary: Ensures & oversees the day to day operations of the clinical staff & clinical programming. Responsible for providing direct supervision to employees assigned to the clinical department and provides indirect guidance to direct care staff regarding clinical programming and treatment expectations. Works directly with the leadership team to ensure effective & safe therapeutic practices are being provided always. Ensures facility compliance with all regulatory and accreditation guidelines and expectations. Directly supervises the clinical staff, including therapists. (ED provides supervision of time and attendance of clinical staff). Ensures compliance and completion of all documentation requirements for the facility are maintained and current. Attends weekly treatment team and clinical staffing on patients to ensure all disciplines are providing clinically pertinent and individualized care to patients. Ensures that clinical staff are providing quality therapeutic interventions. Maintains relationships with providers who are partners for follow-up care. Works closely with risk department and internal auditor to monitor regulatory compliance and verification that all staff follow all hospital policies and procedures. Works collaboratively with other hospital management and physicians or personnel to promote optimal customer service to patients and their families always. Demonstrates the ability to use the DHH/NBHS public/private partnership to enhance patient care. Supervises the therapists in a consistent and reliable way to minimize errors and maximize clinical performance.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides supervision of the clinical team and the clinical service delivery. Services; Assists in training and implementation of uniformed assessments. Assists in the development and implementation of clinical training for staff. Provides direct clinical supervision to therapists weekly to ensure best clinical practices are being followed.
  • Oversees the implementation of clinical policies and procedures. Ensures that all clinical programming, staffing, and documentation is in accordance with regulatory agencies. Ensures that all programming is clinically relevant and appropriate to patient needs. Ensures that discharge plans and after-care for patients is arranged and appropriate.
  • Works as liaison with other medical staff and clinical staff to promote positive outcomes for patients.
  • Develops and implements quality programming g) Provides support and instruction as needed to direct care staff to ensure they adequately understand the treatment program and service delivery expectations to patients based on the patients’ individual treatment plans and clinical needs. Ensures clinical programs and areas follow regulatory requirements
  • Works in conjunction with the Risk Manager/PI Director to promote safe working environment.
  • Supervises all clinical staff assigned to the to ensure appropriate clinical service delivery to patients and their families. Convenes monthly peer audit sessions and uses these to help provide clinical pertinence oversight, as well as problem solve issues related to the delivery of clinical services.
  • Ensures all clinical staff conduct individual, family and collateral contacts and document all contacts in the medical record. Monitors and reviews discharge plans and after-care for patients by the clinical staff
  • Observes clinical staff in the delivery of services to ensure competence in performance of duties. Reviews and audits charts for documentation – both quality and completeness
  • Provides supervision to clinical staff for treatment plans, treatment interventions for appropriateness.
  • Keeps CEO, COO and other leadership members (as appropriate) informed of clinical issues and concerns; consults with and keeps all above informed of performance issues with clinical staff
  • All other duties assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Master’s Degree in clinical or social service related field.

Experience: Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a health care or social service industry preferred; prior supervisory experience necessary.

Competency: Position and Age-Related

Licensure/Certification: Professional clinical license issued by the appropriate licensing body in Louisiana; CPR and CPI certifications required within 30 days of employment.

HIPAA: Has access to secure patient/resident documentation ensuring confidentiality is met

Other: Supervisory skills; advanced clinical knowledge of best practices in the treatment of children/adolescents with severe emotional disturbances or psychiatric illnesses & their families; basic fiscal management skills; excellent written and oral communication skills; creativity; flexibility; time management and organizational skills; skills in data collection and analysis, interpretation, application, and evaluation; strategic planning skills; record of adherence to deadlines; customer service skills; teaching or training skills helpful; willingness to travel, including overnight travel, in work capacity. Skills in maintaining information as highly confidential.

Work Demands/Environment:

Ability to stoop, lift, finger – for example pick, pinch, or type and grasp, ability to clearly and concisely express and exchange ideas via spoken word conveying detailed information to others accurately and on occasion quickly. Ability to perceive the nature of sounds with no less than a 40 db loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz and 2000 Hz with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and to make fine discriminations in sound. Exerting up to 10 to 1 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Ability to inspect and analyze figures, accounting items, written materials, newsprint, computer terminal characters, transcription and other similar objects at distances generally close to the eyes. This is a minimum standard based on the criteria of accuracy and neatness of work. The worker is subject to inside environmental conditions: Protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Although inside work is the rule, it is required that the individual be able to travel.
