Position Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week during academic terms, up to 40 hours per week during term breaks) Student Research positions for the College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at Oregon State University (OSU).

These positions will work with a team of oceanographers and technicians to assemble and test oceanographic platforms and instruments used in the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI). Position Duties 45% Technical implementation of mooring assembly, science instrumentation and interfaces: Work collaboratively with Ocean Observing scientists and engineers to assemble, test, and integrate mechanical,electrical, and data systems that will be used in remote observing platforms. 45% Technical implementation of mooring disassembly and refurbishment: Work collaboratively with Ocean Observing scientists and engineers to disassemble and refurbish mechanical, electrical, and data systems that will be used in remote observing platforms. 10% Assist in mobilizing for oceanographic field operations. Minimum Qualifications Full Employment Eligibility Requirements can be found here:
Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standardHigh School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling programUndergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per termUndergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per termGraduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*
*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center. Additional Required Qualifications Demonstrated written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
