Space Coast, United States Blue Origin Full time

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our diverse team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight

We are a diverse team of collaborators, doers, and problem-solvers who are relentlessly committed to a culture of safety. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.

As part of a diverse and hardworking team of engineers and specialists, you will be responsible for developing and supporting the electrical design, manufacturing, and testing for the New Glenn rocket assembly processes. New Glenn is a single configuration heavy-lift launch vehicle capable of carrying people and payloads routinely to Earth orbit and beyond. Featuring a reusable first stage built for 25 missions, New Glenn will build a road to space. As an Avionics Manufacturing Engineer, you will translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into fully functional hardware ready for test, qualification, and of New Glenn. Throughout the manufacturing process, you will also identify, develop, and deploy methods to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize build sequence and schedules. You will create, interpret, and modify work instructions and routings to convey procedures to technicians and trigger material planning.

If you share our passions and vision, thrive in a dynamic startup environment, excel on integrated cross-functional teams of diverse individuals, are experienced and skilled in several relevant technologies (even if perhaps not in the aerospace industry), continuously seek out opportunities to learn and improve, and do not allow title or job description to limit the depth or breadth of your contributions, then we would love to hear from you.

We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single desired qualification. At Blue Origin, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering. 4+ direct manufacturing and manufacturing engineering experience. Develop manufacturing work instructions to clearly define the following manufacturing process: fabrication, assembly, test, integration, and refurbishment. Closely manage quality, build sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout the entire manufacturing process. Perform engineering drawing review and provide final approval for manufacturing. Define and support repair and rework activities. Perform root cause analyses when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions. Design proper material handling and packaging to protect hardware throughout the build and avionics test process. Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and avionics test process. Understanding of engineering fundamentals for design and manufacturing including working knowledge of GD&T. Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills (CAD, Scheduling, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc). Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100. Extremely customer focused with strong verbal and written communication skills. A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teams of diverse skills across large geographic distances. Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion. Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Must be physically able to:

Support production floor activities. Climb stairs and work in small areas. Lift and carry 40 lbs.

Desired:

Aerospace/Launch vehicle experience. A continuous improvement mindset. Our job is never complete; we are always optimizing. Broad experience in hardware manufacturing: welding, assembly, integration, instrumentation, cleaning, non-destructive testing, leak testing, final acceptance testing of integrated hardware, fabrication, machining, etc. General proficiency with CAD.
