Ann Arbor, United States University of Michigan Full time

Mission Statement

Michigan Medicine improves the health of patients, populations and communities through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research and technology development, and through leadership activities in Michigan, nationally and internationally. Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society.

Responsibilities*

Strategic Planning

Develop and implement comprehensive, multi-year and annual fundraising plans to increase philanthropic support for both the Department of Psychiatry and the Heinz C. Prechter Bipolar Research Program, in close collaboration with the department chair, directors, division chiefs, lead faculty, and administrators. Identify and qualify new major and planned gift prospects by thoughtfully developing and executing both long-range and short-range strategies. These strategies should be designed to maximize the current and lifetime giving potential of each prospect, while also establishing a steady pipeline of donors capable of making significant contributions. Utilize data-driven insights to inform and refine fundraising strategies, ensuring effective identification, qualification, and engagement of high-potential prospects. Develop a deep understanding of the strategic priorities within the Department of Psychiatry, the Heinz C. Prechter Bipolar Research Program, and Michigan Medicine as a whole. Craft and deliver compelling cases for support, both in writing and through presentations, that align the interests of potential donors with the critical needs and initiatives of these programs and the broader University.

Donor & Prospect Management

Personally maintain a portfolio of approximately - major and planned gift prospects, maintaining frequent contact with prospects, university leaders, and volunteers, while spending approximately 70-80% of time on direct fundraising efforts. Conduct approximately - face-to-face visits with prospects and donors per year and participate in approximately 20-40 solicitations per year. Increase philanthropic support for research, education, and patient care for the benefit of the Department of Psychiatry and the Heinz C. Prechter Bipolar Research Program.  Partner with faculty, staff, volunteers, and board members to build donor pipeline and implement targeted cultivation strategies. Ensure consistent donor engagement by guiding solicitations and developing comprehensive, timely, and innovative stewardship plans for all donors. Provide guidance for fundraising committees and volunteer-led events/activities that support Mental Health Programs at Michigan Medicine. Manage efforts to engage alumni, former residents, fellows, and post-docs across the Department of Psychiatry and related programs.

Collaboration

Facilitate activities that lead to prospect identification, engagement, and successful solicitations. Advise chairs, department heads, and development colleagues on the culture, expectations, and needs of medical development constituents. Maintain strong communication with colleagues across the University of Michigan medical and academic campuses to ensure effective collaboration and synergy in achieving fundraising goals. Partner with faculty, staff, and other development personnel in identifying referral opportunities and supporting the overall Michigan Medicine campaign goals. Through collegial consultation and cooperation, demonstrate and be a model of collaboration in the development community, while representing Michigan Medicine development values and its unique role at the University of Michigan.

Other

Participate in Michigan Medicine Development events as appropriate. Perform other duties as required or assigned.

Required Qualifications*
