With Head Start/preschools, 28 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 5 college and career academies/high schools, we are the fifth largest district in the state of Kansas and our student population is approximately 56% Hispanic, 24% African American, 9% White, and 6% Asian. To serve our students, the district employs approximately 4,000 employees including more than 1,800 teachers.

PURPOSE:

The Educational Audiologist will focus their practice on supporting students with hearing difficulties in an educational setting by evaluating the student’s hearing, listening, and auditory processing deficits that can affect their academic success, communication abilities and psychosocial well-being. The Educational Audiologist participates in the evaluation of each child identified and referred by the special education team or the local school district. The audiologist is guided by best practices and codes of ethics that are outlined by his or her professional organizations and Kansas State Law.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Participate s as a member of the multidisciplinary professional team for the purpose of meeting the hearing needs of children and students ages 3-21. Provide s diagnostic services to evaluate hearing and auditory processing skills and to identify the need for amplification and candidacy for assistive hearing technology/support. Participates in the Individual Education Plan to develop educational recommendations, including communication accommodations and assistance with transition planning. Participates in the development and implementation of goals for auditory skill development Provides counseling to parents and students regarding audiologic findings, hearing loss impact, and amplification benefit Provide s consultation in regard to the selection, purchase, installation, maintenance, calibration checking and utilization of audiometric equipment Provide s collaborative consultation with classroom teachers and other school personnel regarding the needs of specific students with hearing loss or hearing loss and educational management in general. Demonstrate s ability to coordinate hearing healthcare services with family, school, medical and community services. Coordinate s identification programs using age appropriate procedures and provide screening support for preschool programs. Train s and coordinates support personnel to administer screening programs and to assist in hearing instrument monitoring. Maintain s accurate written records and appropriate and required documentation Performs other related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s or Doctoral degree in Audiology from an accredited university

Valid Kansas license in Audiology

Meets requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence

Minimum 2 years clinical or educational audiology experience

The ability to travel between school sites

Optional: Kansas License in Fitting and Dispensing of Hearing Instruments

COMMUNICATION/ORGANIZATION

Maintains communication with school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will meet the educational needs of students.

Utilizes existing technology effectively in the performance of duties.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.

job the employee occasionally may visit a child’s home. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 186 days + 10 extra duty days

SALARY: Based on KCKPS Salary Schedule

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

REPORT TO : Special Education Coordinator

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation and Professional Personnel.
