ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Educational Audiologist will dedicate their expertise to assisting students with hearing impairments within an academic environment. This role involves assessing students' hearing, listening, and auditory processing challenges that may hinder their educational achievements, communication skills, and overall emotional health. The Educational Audiologist will engage in the evaluation process for each child referred by the special education team or the local educational authority, adhering to the best practices and ethical standards set forth by professional organizations and Kansas State Law.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate as a vital member of a multidisciplinary team to address the auditory needs of children and students aged 3-21.
  • Deliver diagnostic assessments to evaluate hearing and auditory processing capabilities, determining the necessity for amplification and eligibility for assistive hearing technology.
  • Contribute to the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process, formulating educational recommendations that include communication accommodations and transition planning support.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of objectives aimed at enhancing auditory skills.
  • Provide guidance to parents and students regarding audiological evaluations, the implications of hearing loss, and the advantages of amplification.
  • Offer expert consultation on the selection, acquisition, installation, maintenance, calibration, and effective use of audiometric equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom educators and other school staff to address the specific needs of students with hearing impairments and to enhance educational management.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in coordinating hearing healthcare services among families, schools, medical professionals, and community resources.
  • Organize identification initiatives utilizing age-appropriate methods and provide screening support for preschool programs.
  • Train and supervise support personnel in administering screening programs and monitoring hearing instruments.
  • Maintain precise written records and fulfill all necessary documentation requirements.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A Master's or Doctoral degree in Audiology from an accredited institution.

A valid Kansas Audiology license.

Compliance with the requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence.

A minimum of 2 years of clinical or educational audiology experience.

Willingness to travel between various school locations.

PREFERRED: Kansas License in Fitting and Dispensing of Hearing Instruments

COMMUNICATION AND ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS:

Foster effective communication with school staff and parents/guardians to promote collaborative efforts that address the educational needs of students.

Utilize available technology efficiently in executing job responsibilities.

REASONING ABILITY: The ability to tackle practical problems and navigate various concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Capability to interpret a range of instructions presented in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled formats.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY: Ability to effectively convey information and respond to inquiries from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the broader community.

While executing the responsibilities of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, stand, and communicate verbally or audibly. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee may also need to push items weighing 50 pounds, such as a bike or wheelchair, or rearrange furniture. Additionally, the employee may visit students' homes as part of their duties. Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, and depth perception.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, colleagues, parents, and the community; ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and oral formats.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 186 days + 10 extra duty days

SALARY: Based on KCKPS Salary Schedule

EVALUATION: Performance in this position will be assessed in accordance with the Board's policy on Evaluation and Professional Personnel.
