To effectively serve our students, the district employs around 4,000 staff members, including over 1,800 educators.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

The Educational Audiologist will dedicate their expertise to assisting students with hearing impairments within an academic environment. This role involves assessing students' hearing capabilities, auditory processing challenges, and their impact on academic performance, communication skills, and social-emotional health. The Educational Audiologist will engage in evaluations for each child referred by the special education team or local school district, adhering to established best practices and ethical standards as defined by professional organizations and Kansas State Law.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team to address the hearing needs of children and students aged 3-21.
  • Deliver diagnostic assessments to evaluate hearing and auditory processing abilities, determining the necessity for amplification and eligibility for assistive hearing technologies.
  • Contribute to the Individual Education Plan by formulating educational recommendations, including communication accommodations and transition planning support.
  • Assist in the creation and execution of objectives for auditory skill enhancement.
  • Provide guidance to parents and students regarding audiological assessments, the implications of hearing loss, and the advantages of amplification.
  • Offer expert consultation on the selection, acquisition, installation, maintenance, and calibration of audiometric equipment.
  • Engage in collaborative discussions with classroom educators and other school staff regarding the specific needs of students with hearing impairments and general educational management.
  • Demonstrate the ability to coordinate hearing healthcare services among families, schools, medical professionals, and community resources.
  • Organize identification programs utilizing age-appropriate methods and provide screening assistance for preschool initiatives.
  • Train and oversee support personnel in administering screening programs and monitoring hearing instruments.
  • Maintain precise written records and fulfill necessary documentation requirements.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Master's or Doctoral degree in Audiology from an accredited institution.

A valid Kansas license in Audiology.

Compliance with the requirements for the Certificate of Clinical Competence.

A minimum of 2 years of clinical or educational audiology experience.

The ability to travel between various school locations.

Optional: Kansas License in Fitting and Dispensing of Hearing Instruments

COMMUNICATION AND ORGANIZATION:

Maintain effective communication with school staff and parents/guardians to foster collaborative efforts that meet the educational needs of students.

Utilize current technology efficiently in the execution of job responsibilities.

REASONING ABILITY: The capacity to address practical challenges and manage a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization. Ability to interpret diverse instructions presented in written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled formats.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Proficient in presenting information and responding to inquiries from groups of administrators, staff, parents, students, and the general public.

EVALUATION: The performance of this position will be assessed in accordance with the Board's policy on Evaluation and Professional Personnel.
