About the Job



70% - Providing support on specific scientific projects to include planning and execution experimentation, involvement in training of laboratory techniques/procedures, development and management of scientific database and protocols, coordinating imaging, physiology, and behavioral studies with collaborators and core labs as well as using various techniques including PCR, immunohistochemistry, Western blot, ELISA, flow cytometry, cell culture, and others. The candidate may present work to the other members of the lab or department. It is ultimately expected that the candidate will generate important scientific results that will lead to publications in scientific journals. The candidate will be involved in writing of manuscripts of findings produced in the lab.

30% - General laboratory support. Serve in a support role for the lab by preparing common reagents. Update inventories of supplies, order common chemicals and reagents for the
laboratory, and help to keep equipment in working order including cleaning lab and autoclaved/sterilized reagents and equipment. Supervise students and trainees in the lab and provide quality assurance of their work.

The candidate will, after appropriate training, work mostly independently with general supervision only and trouble-shoot problems with common lab techniques. The candidate will collaborate with the P.I.(s) to develop and optimize new techniques. The candidate and P.I.s will maintain open, clear, and honest communication and communicate frequently to reach to goals of the experiments.

The candidate will maintain professional behavior and speech and be integral in maintaining a supportive and respectful culture that values all lab members, regardless of rank or level of education.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
• Master's degree and 2 years of related experiences or BS/BA and 4 years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Senior individual contributor who often is designated lead or who frequently is assigned project leadership roles
• Experience with animal in vivo experiments (preferred: rodent).
• Experience with many of the above mentioned common laboratory techniques
• Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and Google suite management
• Good oral and written communication skills
• High reliability- able to adhere to strict timelines on time-sensitive experiments
• Experience with animal experiments including euthanasia, tissue/serum collection, breeding, behavioral studies
• Demonstrated attention to detail and exceptional organization abilities
• Able to communicate technical aspects of the project effectively, as well as train personnel in complicated techniques
• Experience with delegating responsibility, supervising, and quality checking the work of
student workers
• Ability to work in a collaborative environment and also work independently with periodic checks on accuracy, quality and timeliness of outcomes
• Ability to find solutions to routine technical or operational problems
• Preference will be given to candidates with strong scientific and personal integrity, strong work ethic, ability to learn new techniques, flexibility to change scientific or technical course, and enthusiasm for learning.
