We are currently hiring for an Adolescent Behavior Management Specialist at our Tempe location. Behavior Management Specialists have the natural ability to form positive supportive relationships with children and adults in caring, family and community based environments using ways that adhere to the 12 AZ Principles. Work with children who have special behavioral health needs, and their families, in their home and in community-based settings. The Behavior Management Specialist works a flexible schedule in conjunction with the needs of the family providing direct support utilizing cognitive behavior therapeutic techniques. Must have knowledge and experience in the area of behavior management and parent partnering/education; working in collaboration with teams serving families within the Child and Family Team process consistent with the Arizona Vision/12 principles. Must be able to adhere to deadlines, medical records compliance and performance requirements. Some evening hours required.

Essential Responsibilities:

Provide mentoring, life and social skill building, psychosocial rehabilitation living skills training, respite, individual and family counseling (only if meets BHT Qualifications), crisis intervention and stabilization, behavior management, intensive wraparound to children and their families in their home and in community-based settings. Assist with the coordination of case management services and communication of community-based resources. Perform procedures to support clinical operations including problem resolution and customer service; documentation, facilitate Child and Family Teams, and perform other duties as assigned, which may include mentoring children, assisting with living skills, providing respite for families, and other supportive services.  In collaboration with each child and family, support services to families, youth, and adults, that meet the following 12 Arizona Principles: (1) Collaboration with the family, youth, and adult; (2) Emphasis on achieving functional outcomes; (3) Collaboration with others, including participation in unified assessment, planning and service approaches when families, youth, and adults are involved with multiple systems; (4) Access for families, youth, and adults to a comprehensive array of sufficient behavioral health services to meet their needs; (5)Best practices;(6) Most appropriate setting; (7) Timeliness; (8) Services tailored to the family, youth, and adult; (9) Stability in placements; (10) Respect for the family's, youth’s, and adult’s unique cultural heritage;(11) Independence, and; (12) Connection to natural supports  Deliver at least 40 hours of work per week, with a goal of 30 hours direct client contact, which includes case management as needed. Ensure meet clinical documentation standards established monthly/annually. Complete all tasks agreed upon by timelines given. Must be able to work a flexible schedule based on the needs of the children and families, which may include evening or weekend hours when needed.  Facilitate, schedule, and provide follow up on family, youth, and adult team meetings (ACT or CFT). Complete written documentation of this meeting and provide copy to all team members. Engage and invite natural supports as identified by family, youth, and adult. Make referrals to collaborating partners and other community services, as client needs indicate. Work with the child, family, and any support network to identify areas of risk and to create safeguards specific to these concerns. Promote and protect the health, safety, and emotional well-being of children and families by assisting, supporting and educating them to prevent illness and avoid unsafe activities.  Assist the CFT in crisis stabilization and transitional moves to and from higher levels of care.  Consistently address challenging behaviors proactively, respectfully, and by avoiding the use of aversive or deprivation intervention techniques in family-centered, strengths-based manners. 

Other Duties and Responsibilities: 

Develop respectful relationships with children and their families based on mutual trust while maintaining professional boundaries.  Assist children and families to understand options and the possible consequences of these options as they relate to their physical health and emotional well-being.  Know and respect the values of children and families and facilitate their expression of choices related to those values.  Collaborate with others, including the Child and Family Team members (e.g. therapists, coworkers, family members, doctors, nurses, etc.), to recognize and support the children and families to make informed decisions even when these decisions involve personal risk.  Attends various meetings to represent EMPACT-SPC and families respectfully and consistently and provide other supportive services as needed.  Attend regular scheduled ongoing supervision. Seek out additional supervision as needed.

What you’ll provide:

High School Diploma/GED is required. BHT level as stipulated by AZDHS/BHS is preferred. Experience working with at-risk adolescents preferred. Must have minimum of One year prior experience in an applicable or relevant setting pertinent to the position. Knowledge of Behavior Management Techniques. Ability to facilitate meetings and groups with community member, families and teens. Experience working with children in DCS care and knowledge of the RBHA children system preferred. Experience assisting teens with independent livings skills and transiting to adulthood preferred. Must be able to work with multiple systems and children and families in crisis. Teen Substance Abuse experience preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills is required. Must have excellent time management skills; be able to meet deadlines and timely documentation. Must be able to work with multiple systems and children and families in crisis. Must have Fingerprint clearance card or be eligible to obtain one. Must have a valid AZ driver's license with no major infractions in the past three years. Must have regular access to reliable transportation. Bi-lingual (Spanish) Diff per hour available. Must be 21 years of age or older at time of employment. 

 Additional Requirements and Responsibilities:

Demonstrated ability to remain calm in crisis situations, work independently and cooperatively, recognize personal limitations, and relate positively and with empathy to all persons regardless of age, race, creed, gender or sexual orientation. Maintain professional conduct consistent with ethical professional practice and the policies and procedures of the agency. Maintain a professional demeanor and positive working relationships with internal and external team members, stakeholders, and community and business partners. If driving while on agency time or on agency business, a valid Arizona driver license and appropriate liability insurance and approval for liability coverage with EMPACT - SPC’s liability insurance carrier is required. At time of hire, a 3-year state driving record with no major infractions or excessive driving violations/tickets is required.
