Job Description

This position serves as support to the Vice President and General Counsel, to the organization and its affiliates on the legal aspects of professional and business matters. Senior Litigation Counsel is responsible for researching and advising on issues related to all areas of the law. This position provides leadership to the risk management functions of the Legal Department as assigned.

Senior Litigation Counsel (SLC) is responsible for researching and advising on issues related to all areas of the law, including but not limited to, professional liability, general liability, informed consent, employment, medical staff matters, civil and criminal procedure and regulatory compliance. The SLC is responsible for handling assigned litigation matters, including entering an appearance and defending AtlantiCare interests in litigation and/or overseeing outside counsel litigation services.

This position supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation. The SLC operates under the practices and policies of the organization and ensures its ethical standards are applied in all legal matters.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Juris Doctor

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Licensed member of the Bar of the State of New Jersey required.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum 20 years experience in performing legal work including litigation experience in general liability and professional liability matters, within a hospital, physician practice or law firm servicing hospital and/or physician clients required. Knowledge of health care law and health care regulations preferred.
