JOB TITLE: Case Manager REPORTS TO: Program Manager Women for Afghan Women (WAW)

is a grassroots, civil society organization dedicated to securing and protecting the rights of disenfranchised Afghan women and girls in Afghanistan and the United States, particularly their rights to develop their individual potential, to self determination, and to be represented in all areas of life: political, social, cultural, and economic. WAW advocates for women’s rights and challenges the norms that underpin gender-based violence wherever opportunities arise to influence attitudes and bring about change. Position Summary : The Case Manager is a full-time position in Virginia and reports directly to the Program Director. The Case Manager is responsible for working on various client cases in a timely manner, supporting the Staff Attorney alongside the caseworker team. The Case Manager will provide services using a strength-based approach. The Case Manger will work with external organizations and agencies to maximize support for WAW’s clients. Responsibilities Manage and oversee the legal team and caseworkers of the VACC Conduct check-ins with the legal team and caseworkers and ensure they are aware of all updates relevant to their work Manage arrangements for clients to be accompanied to agencies, facilities, and appointments Provide information and referrals for services such as shelter, long-term counseling, public assistance, and other entitlements, as well as assistance with OP Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with clients Manage and check-in on regular program monitoring and periodic evaluation of the legal and case management services Manage partnerships already established and collaborate with new organizations in the VA area to maximize the resources of the VACC Conduct client-centered safety assessments and help clients prepare risk management plans; provide technical assistance, consultation, and opportunities for training new case managers and volunteers Manage and assist in developing cases for clients required to appear at fair hearings for social services appeal (SNAP, Cash Assistance) Refer clients to other organizations for additional services (e.g. counseling, shelters) and advise clients about services they are entitled to Translate on behalf of clients File USCIS forms for clients facing language barriers Conduct safety planning with domestic violence survivors and assist them in obtaining safe shelter while their case is being processed Provide back-up coverage to front line staff as needed Manage and arrange staff meetings, community meetings, relevant trainings and seminars Ensure all client information into WAW’s database are entered in a timely manner Ensure the hard copy of clients’ case files are updated and securely stored Various other duties to be determined by the supervisor. Organizational Responsibilities Serve as a spokesperson on behalf of WAW at various programs, meetings, and functions when approved by the program director and/or executive director. Manage communications between different departments to ensure no misunderstandings occur and all operations run smoothly; implement new projects and programs and assign which departments will be responsible for each aspect of those projects and programs Understand the ins and outs of casework, legal, education, outreach, mental health, and communications departments VACC/NYCC Translate for participants at monthly Women Circle sessions and other programs as needed. Oversee demographic information and statistics across all services provided for reporting purposes. Help with community outreach and other events when needed. Stay informed and updated about WAW’s programs in Afghanistan. Preferred Qualifications| Bachelor’s Degree required Master’s degree in social work (MSW) is preferred Should have at least 3 years of work experience in the US Passionate and experienced in working with immigrant and refugee communities Ability to create a safe, respectful, positive, fun, and welcoming environment by modeling professionalism and utilizing positive feedback methods Excellent verbal and written communication skills Language skills in Dari, Pashto preferred but not required Must be organized and have excellent attention to detail Compensation Women for Afghan Women offers an attractive compensation package, including a competitive base salary with health and vacation benefits.
