Overview

Position Summary

The Front End Development Manager is responsible for managing a team of front end developers and working alongside them to deliver high-quality code and user experiences. This hybrid position requires both technical expertise and leadership skills to ensure the success of the team and the projects they work on.

This position reports to the VP of Applications Development Collaborates with other members of the development, database, and infrastructure teams, project managers, as well as business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Project Management

  • Plan, organize, and manage technical projects from initiation to completion.
  • Define project scope, set objectives, allocate resources, and manage timelines.

Product Development and Improvement

  • Design, develop, and maintain font end web applications.
  • Identify potential risks and challenges associated with technical projects and develop mitigation strategies to proactively address.
  • Monitor and analyze product performance metrics and user feedback and identify opportunities for improvement and new feature development.
  • Utilize data-driven insights to make informed product decisions and prioritize enhancements in conjunction with leadership.
  • Work with developers to perform code reviews and approve releases.

Stakeholder Management

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, such as clients, product managers, and business analysts, to understand requirements and design technical solutions that align with business objectives.
  • Ensure that solutions are scalable, secure, and meet quality standards.
  • Translate business requirements into clear and actionable user stories and technical requirements for development teams.
  • Create and prioritize the product backlog based on user feedback, business value, and technical feasibility.

Documentation and Testing

  • Create and maintain product documentation, including user guides, release notes, and technical specifications.
  • Conduct user acceptance testing and gather feedback to validate and iterate on product features.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Provides strong people leadership, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture.
  • Holds regular one-on-one meetings to provide coaching and feedback, assess performance, and discuss growth and development.
  • Sets performance goals, tracks progress, and provides coaching and support to help team members achieve their objectives.
  • Facilitates effective communication within the team and with other departments.
  • Addresses and resolves conflicts promptly to maintain a productive work environment.
  • Encourages and supports team members in their own skill development and knowledge acquisition.

Personal Development and Additional Responsibilities

  • Stays current with industry trends and best practices through regular research and professional development.
  • Develops and maintains relevant skills.
  • Perform any other duties and tasks as assigned by management to meet the needs of the department and organization.


Qualifications

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in software engineering, computer science, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience in software development
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with front end languages used by the team: JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and others.
  • Strong understanding of front-end development technologies and best practices
  • Understanding of RESTful API usage and concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into actionable user stories and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in using project management and collaboration tools, such as Azure DevOps, JIRA, Confluence, or similar.
  • Familiarity with Agile development frameworks, such as Scrum or Kanban
  • Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices related to staffing industry is preferred.
