POSITION SUMMARY:

The Alternative Learning Program Coordinator/Dean of Students will serve the Alexandria Area High School. The Coordinator/Dean will manage all programming at the Alternative Program while providing insight, training and leadership to administrators and school staff. The coordinator responsibilities will include communicating effectively with students, school staff, parents, and outside agencies to sustain and/or develop effective school programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Bachelor's degree in educational Field.
  2. Administrative License desirable.
  3. A minimum of five years as a teacher is required; public education preferred.
  4. Required current teacher licensure by MN Dept. of Education with appropriate secondary endorsement.
  5. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with employees, administrators, students, collaborating district staff, and parents.
  6. Ability to multitask, deal with change, and show initiative and assume responsibility for working productively with minimal supervision.
  7. Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with a diverse group of colleagues, parents, families, and community members.
  8. Adhere to a high level of professional and ethical standards and to maintain the utmost confidentiality of all student/family and classroom information.
  9. Demonstrate an advanced understanding of instructional strategies for students with at risk needs.
  10. Have excellent time-management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently.
  11. Experience in gathering data, compiling information and preparing reports.
  12. Demonstrate ability to develop, plan and implement related policies and procedures.
  13. Possess a valid MN Driver's License.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
  1. Coordinate and monitor programming while providing insight, training and leadership.
  2. Collaborate with building administration in the delivery of Alternative education services and program support.
  3. Work with School staff to ensure that adequate educational structure is in place to meet the emotional, physical and cognitive needs of learners.
  4. Ensure Continuous Learning Plans (CLP) are in place and meet the individual needs of students attending RAS.
  5. Assist in the development and implementation of program goals and objectives.
  6. Ensure compliance following State and Federal rules and regulations and adhere to timelines and completion of paperwork in compliance with MDE standards for Alternative Programs.
  7. Establishing and maintaining communication with parents of students in the program.
  8. Providing training and technical assistance to teachers, district connected staff and support service professionals on all aspects of alternative programming: use of computer systems for the Alternative Learning Program, writing of CLP goal, progress reports, annual reviews and parent communication.
  9. Provide training and mentoring to teachers, administrators, support staff and paraprofessionals regarding broad and specific concepts related to alternative program services.
  10. Provide leadership and vision to ensure continuous organizational development and improvement within the Alternative Learning Program.
  11. Implement and monitor the use of the data tracking and reporting system (ALP programming, Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) state assessment and reporting. This will involve providing feedback and making recommendations.
  12. Provide leadership and management of all state required assessments and reporting.
  13. Manage student discipline with the assistance of the AAHS Administration.
  14. Utilize strong interpersonal skills and abilities to work effectively as a member of a team to promote team goals and maintain a positive team climate.
  15. Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the High School Principal.


SUPERVISION:

The Coordinator/Dean of Students reports to the Alexandria Area High School Principal.
