Washington District of Columbia, US KFF Full time

KFF

KFF is the leading health policy organization in the U.S. As a one-of-a-kind information organization, we bring together substantial capabilities in policy research, polling, and journalism in one organization to meet the need for a trusted, independent source of information on national health issues—one with the scope and reach to be a counterweight to health care’s vested interests and a voice for people. We have five major program areas: policy analysis, polling, journalism, public health information campaigns, and health misinformation and trust.

KFF is not a foundation and has no connection to Kaiser Permanente. Legally, we are a public charity (an endowed national nonprofit organization). We are headquartered in San Francisco with a building in Washington, DC, conference centers in both offices, and staff members in almost every state.

The Team

The Health Misinformation and Trust Initiative is a new KFF program aimed at tracking health misinformation in the U.S, analyzing its impact on the American people, and mobilizing media to address the problem. The goal is to be of service to everyone in the health misinformation and trust field to help efforts to counter misinformation and build public trust.

Your Role

KFF is seeking a Health Misinformation Analyst to join the Health Misinformation and Trust team. Building on KFF’s role as the nation’s premiere source of health policy analysis, polling, and journalism, the program serves as a source of information for those working on misinformation in health by identifying sources of misinformation and ways to counter it, as well as strategies to maximize trust.

The Health Misinformation Analyst will play a critical role in producing a variety of written content, including research reports, news-style articles, and newsletters.

What You’ll Do

  • Write the twice monthly Health Misinformation Monitor and other products to be determined.
  • Assist in preparing comprehensive reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop clear and concise presentation materials on health misinformation trends for various audiences.
  • Conduct analysis of data and information from various sources on health misinformation, including its sources, spread, and impact, and identify patterns and trends.
  • Maintain and update databases of organizations, examples, and initiatives addressing health misinformation, disinformation, and public trust building efforts in healthcare in the United States.
  • Contribute to communication strategies to share findings, including active engagement with the external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams at KFF, including journalism, policy, polling, and social impact media, on projects related to misinformation.
  • Assist in program event planning where needed.
  • Stay informed on the latest developments and advancements in the field of health misinformation and its impact on public health.

Minimum Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant professional experience in independently writing and crafting a variety of stylistic content, including reports, newsletters, social content, and briefings.
  • Experience in misinformation is a plus. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong attention to detail and demonstrated proofreading skills.
  • Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Proven track record of showing initiative and using creative problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to show initiative and use creative problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in adapting writing styles to suit different audiences and communication goals.
  • Experience interpreting quantitative data and presenting findings in unique and creative ways
  • Demonstrated cultural competence in working with and within diverse communities, and a commitment to equity and inclusion.

The preceding position description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed. It is not designed to contain or be interpreted as a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required of employees assigned to this job.

This full-time position will be based in KFF’s Washington, DC office, located downtown near Metro Center (preferred) or in KFF’s San Francisco headquarters. KFF is currently working a hybrid schedule and requires all staff to work in the office a minimum of 2 days a week.

Compensation

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. Compensation includes an outstanding benefits package equivalent in value to approximately fifty percent of base salary including a generous and immediately vested defined contribution plan and zero-premium health coverage.

The annual salary range for the Misinformation Content Writer and Program Analyst position is between $75,000 and $85,000. Our job titles and salary ranges may span more than one career level, and the salary offered to a candidate will be determined based on factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, job-related knowledge and skill set, depth of experience, certifications and/or degrees, and our practice of upholding salary equity within the organization.
