Job Description

Under general direction, the Port Special Events Manager oversees and licenses special events on Port property. The Port Special Events Manager interfaces with a variety of Port Divisions, sister agencies and partner organizations including the San Francisco Police Department, Recreation and Parks Department, San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency, Bay Conservation and Development Commission, the Port Building Permits Desk and members of the public. The Port Special Events Manager implements Port policies for special events including but not limiting to the Port Code, Port Waterfront Plan, Port Race Equity Action Plan, and BCDC permit requirements impacting the use of space for public access.

The essential functions of this position include:

Drafts property agreements and other documents in compliance with Port policies and practices for review and approval of management and legal counsel.

Assists special event applicants, including Port tenants, nonprofits, community organizations and small businesses, with navigating the special events license and permitting process.

Assesses and advises Port tenants and external stakeholders of potential impacts from special events such as street closures or restricted access to Port facilities.

Supports other city departments and state agencies, including the SF Police, Fire, Municipal Transportation Agency, the Entertainment Commission, Dept. of Public Health, Dept. of Emergency Management, California Alcohol Beverage Commission, state regulatory agencies and other external stakeholders with special event-related issues within Port jurisdiction.

Works with Port maintenance to initiate work requests to prepare and resolve any maintenance and repair issues in preparation and post-event recovery of facilities/license areas.

Responds to complaints regarding noise, traffic, trash, etc.; acts as liaison between licensee and regulatory agencies, community advisory committees and City/Port staff; maintains records to document requests, revenue, waivers and event issues/details.

Markets properties for location filming, special events, and activations.

Develops and implements special event and activation concepts and maintains cooperative relationships with tenants and stakeholders while protecting the Port's interests.

Maintains the special events website, the special event programming and activation calendar.

Maintains special events online application.   

Collaborates with other Port divisions in the delivery of services and activities including recreational programming.

Works with the Communications Team on social media/marketing strategy.

Monitors permitted events and activations to ensure terms of permits and agreements and all regulatory protocols are followed which may require working evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
