Traffic Operations Administrative Assistant
- Department of Transportation Schedule: Monday–Friday, 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Location:
In Office, Oklahoma City, OK Pay: Starting at $20/hr Position Overview We are looking for a dependable, organized, and technology-minded Administrative Assistant to support our Traffic Operations Center. This position will monitor traffic conditions, assist with incident management, operate highway Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), track roadway and equipment issues, and support daily traffic operations. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with multiple computer applications, can learn new technology quickly, communicates well, and can remain calm and focused during busy or emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities
• Monitor traffic cameras, roadway conditions, crashes, congestion, construction, and work zones.
• Review and track traffic incidents using multiple data sources, including Waze and traffic management systems.
• Post, update, and clear messages on highway Dynamic Message Signs (DMS).
• Verify that DMS messages are posted correctly.
• Monitor signs and equipment for errors and issues, and assist with creating maintenance tickets when needed.
• Use traffic management applications to monitor cameras, DMS signs, incidents, construction, and fleet vehicles.
• Track snowplows and other fleet vehicles when needed and seasonally.
• Assist with developing and testing new traffic applications and tools.
• Participate in weekly ITS meetings and provide updates on assigned tasks.
• Communicate important traffic information to appropriate team members and stakeholders.
• May assist with budget and claims documents, maintain accurate records and documentation, and perform other duties as assigned. Systems & Applications The employee will be trained to use a variety of traffic operations systems, including:
• OKTraffic & ITS Console
• DMS Control
• MainTracker
• OKRoads & OKSnowplows
• Samsara & Traffic Vision
• Other traffic applications currently in development No prior experience with these systems is required. Training will be provided. Qualifications
• Strong computer and technology skills.
• Ability to learn new software and systems quickly.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to multitask and prioritize assignments.
• Reliable and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
• Ability to work independently, use sound judgment, and complete tasks without direct supervision.
• Previous administrative, dispatch, transportation, traffic operations, or customer service experience is a plus. Work Environment This is an in-office position working from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, including coverage during busy evening rush-hour periods. The position involves monitoring multiple computer systems throughout the day and requires responding to crashes, severe weather, construction, congestion, and other roadway incidents. What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is reliable, organized, detail-oriented, comfortable with technology, and willing to learn. The right person does not need to have traffic operations experience, we will provide training on our systems and procedures
