The Regulatory Affairs Director will lead The Transport Project's (TTP) efforts to monitor, analyze, and advocate for regulatory policies impacting the industry. This role is responsible for representing the interests of member organizations in interactions with government agencies, regulators, and other stakeholders. The Director will develop and implement strategies to influence regulatory developments, ensure compliance, and provide guidance to members on relevant regulatory issues. Strong leadership, policy advocacy, and industry expertise are key to success in this role.

What You Will Do

In support of Federal Regulatory Affairs

Monitor and Analyze Federal Regulations
: Continuously track, review, and interpret federal regulations, policies, and programs impacting the development and deployment of gaseous-fueled vehicles and fueling infrastructure.

Lead Advocacy Efforts
: Direct and manage advocacy initiatives before key federal agencies—including the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), and others—focusing on energy efficiency standards, emissions regulations, safety protocols, and market-based policies.

Build and Maintain Relationships
: Foster strong relationships with staff at federal agencies to effectively advocate for policies that promote the expanded adoption of natural gas vehicles, ensuring alignment with industry priorities.

Oversee Regulatory Communications
: Supervise the drafting of official comments, letters, and other written responses to proposed or upcoming federal regulations, ensuring they accurately represent the interests and positions of the association's membership.

Support Oral Advocacy
: Assist in preparing testimony, presentations, speeches, and other verbal communications that advocate for the association's policy positions related to federal regulations and initiatives.

Member Communication and Updates
: Keep member companies informed on relevant activities of federal agencies by preparing informative content for weekly e-newsletters, Board reports, and other communications that highlight regulatory developments and their potential impact on the gaseous vehicle sector.

In support of State Regulatory Affairs

Monitor and Analyze State Regulations
: Continuously track, review, and assess state legislation, regulations, policies, and programs affecting the development and deployment of gaseous-fueled vehicles and fueling infrastructure.

Develop Model Legislation and Policy
: Draft model state legislation, regulatory language, and policy guidance to address critical issues of national significance, ensuring consistency with industry goals.

Provide Regulatory Guidance
: Advise member companies on proposed or adopted state regulations, offering strategic insights and assisting in the development of formal responses to state actions.

Facilitate Consensus Building
: Work with members to build consensus on state policy positions and regulations, coordinating the submission of comments and the preparation of testimony on relevant state issues.

·  
Lead State Advocacy Committee
: Serve as the staff executive to the TTP State Government Advocacy Committee, providing leadership and strategic direction to the committee's advocacy efforts.

Member Communication and Updates
: Keep member companies informed of state-level legislative and agency activities impacting gaseous-fueled vehicles by preparing articles for weekly e-newsletters, Board reports, and other timely communications.

·   
Monitor and Report on Lawsuits
: Track lawsuits impacting federal rulemakings, providing members with regular updates and summaries on key aspects, developments, and status of such legal actions.

What You Bring

·
At least 5 years of experience in transportation policy, government affairs, regulatory strategy, or energy sector work.

·      Previous successful experience working in trade associations, member-driven organizations, or public sector coalitions.

·      Previous successful experience managing projects and teams.

·      J.D. and admission to a bar preferred.

·      Ability to travel domestically and work non-traditional work hours.

Where You'll Work

TTP's work and that of the Director is based in Washington, DC. Consideration may be given to work primarily from areas outside of Washington, DC. The incumbent must be available for meetings in Washington, DC on short notice during regular business hours, and should be prepared to travel domestically between 2 and 5 times annually.

Compensation

TTP offers a competitive compensation package, including a base salary plus eligibility for a performance-based bonus of up to 5% of annual salary. Bonuses are awarded based on individual and organizational performance and are designed to recognize outstanding contributions to our mission. The base compensation range for candidates based in Washington, DC is approximately $135,000 – $155,000, depending on skills and experiences. We are committed to fair, competitive compensation based on qualifications, experience, and demonstrated performance. TTP also provides contributions to employee health care, a robust retirement plan, generous PTO, and flexible work arrangements.

The Transport Project is a national coalition of roughly 200 fleets, vehicle and engine manufacturers and dealers, servicers and suppliers, and fuel producers and providers dedicated to the decarbonization of North America's transportation sector. Through the increased use of gaseous motor fuels including conventional natural gas, renewable natural gas, and hydrogen, the United States and Canada can help achieve ambitious climate goals and greatly improve air quality safely, reliably, and effectively without delay and without compromising existing commercial business operations.
