Overview

August Strategy Group (ASG) is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and self-directed Federal Affairs Director to join our team and lead federal level executive branch engagement efforts on behalf of ASG's healthcare clients.

As Federal Affairs Director, you will manage the healthcare portfolio of federal level policy initiatives, represent the organization, and its clients in meetings and drive strategic outreach efforts. You will build relationships with policymakers, support clients or internal teams, and help ASG clients shape federal policy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategy & Engagement
  • Develop and execute targeted federal policy strategies to advance priorities through the White House and federal agencies
  • Serve as lead policy strategist for healthcare clients, providing expert guidance on federal rulemaking, administrative actions, and regulatory reform efforts
  • Monitor and analyze agency initiatives, proposed rules, and policy developments impacting healthcare delivery, access, and innovation
  • Client & Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with ASG clients and administration officials
  • Represent clients in meetings, briefings, and coalition discussions to advance their policy goals within the executive branch
  • Provide timely, high-quality policy updates, analyses, and strategic recommendations to clients and ASG leadership
  • Communications & Advocacy
  • Draft concise policy briefs, memos, and materials that clearly communicate client positions
  • Serve as lead advisor and primary point of contact for healthcare clients, providing strategic counsel on federal policy engagement
  • Translate complex regulatory and policy issues into clear, actionable insights that drive effective results
  • Strategic Guidance
  • Advise ASG clients and internal leadership on federal-level dynamics, political risks, and opportunities for engagement
  • Anticipate agency actions and emerging trends to proactively position clients in key healthcare policy debates
  • Support integrated advocacy strategies that align agency engagement, communications, and client objectives for measurable impact

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Experience: : 8+ years of professional experience in healthcare policy within government affairs, public policy, or external relations, ideally within:
  • A federal agency
  • A healthcare company
  • U.S. Congress or a congressional office
  • A public policy think tank or advocacy organization
  • Attributes & Skills:
  • Politically astute, with strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Self-motivated, responsive, and able to anticipate client needs
  • Able to manage multiple projects, timelines, and stakeholders with efficiency and tact
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator able to brief diverse audiences on complex topics
  • Strategic thinker who can offer insight and guidance on executive and advocacy approaches

Preferred Qualifications

  • In addition to healthcare expertise, familiarity with a wide range of domestic policy issues
  • Experience briefing government officials and clients on policy strategy
  • Existing relationships with administration officials and relevant stakeholder networks
