Fully remote within Texas (preference for candidates living in or willing to relocate to one of our seven Texas regions: Austin, Dallas–Fort Worth, El Paso, Houston, Permian Basin, Rio Grande Valley, and San Antonio)

Travel:
Up to 30% annually (many weeks with no travel required)

About the Role

IDEA Public Schools seeks a
Chief Talent Officer (CTO)
to design and lead our national human capital strategy building the systems, culture, and leadership pipelines that enable every scholar to achieve excellence.

Reporting to the President and serving as a key member of the Executive Team, the CTO oversees IDEA's comprehensive Talent Engine for 10,000+ employees, including the divisions of
Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, Staff Experience, Human Resources, and Compensation & Benefits
.

Supervisory Responsibilities

The CTO leads a six-person senior leadership team:

  • Vice President, Talent Acquisition
  • Vice President, Human Resources
  • Vice President, Compensation & Benefits
  • Vice President, Staff Experience
  • Chief of Staff
  • Director, HR Quality Assurance

What You'll Do

As the Chief Talent Officer, you will:

  • Develop and execute a bold, organization-wide
    Talent Strategy
    aligned with IDEA's mission, core values, and long-term goals.
  • Lead large-scale
    recruitment, development, and retention
    strategies to attract, grow, and retain top educators and leaders.
  • Oversee
    Human Resources operations
    , ensuring compliance, fairness, and high-quality service delivery across multiple states.
  • Drive innovation in
    compensation, benefits, and HR systems
    to ensure sustainability, competitiveness, and a best-in-class employee experience.
  • Champion a culture of
    engagement, belonging, and continuous growth
    , ensuring IDEA remains a "Best Place to Work."
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to the
    President and Executive Team
    , aligning talent priorities with organizational growth and scholar outcomes.

What You Bring

  • Proven success leading comprehensive
    Talent or HR functions
    in large, multi-state organizations (5,000+ employees).
  • Deep knowledge of
    HR compliance, labor law, and talent strategy
    at scale.
  • Expertise in
    change management, organizational design, and stakeholder alignment
    .
  • Ability to design and improve systems that drive efficiency, equity, and engagement.
  • Experience integrating
    AI-powered tools and data systems
    into talent management.
  • A belief that with the right systems, coaching, and support—anyone can become an exceptional educator or leader.

Required Education And Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required
  • Experience: Minimum 10 years in talent and/or human resources, with significant managerial or supervisory experience

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Education: Master's degree in education or business administration preferred.
  • License or Certification: SPHR, SHRM, or equivalent certifications preferred

Compensation

Salary for this role is commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications, in alignment with internal equity. The role is also eligible for performance pay tied to organizational outcomes.
