Who We Are And What We Do
The Department regulates banks, credit unions, trust companies, business and industrial development corporations, industrial loan and thrift companies, insurance premium finance companies, mortgage lenders, brokers, servicers and originators, title pledge lenders, check cashers, deferred presentment services companies, money transmitters and flexible credit act lenders. The Bank Division has legal responsibility for ensuring that the Tennessee state-chartered banking system runs on a safe and sound basis. The Divisions risk-focused approach seeks to achieve the Departments mission of balancing safety and soundness with affording institutions the opportunity to contribute to economic development. In its supervisory role, the Bank Division periodically examines the financial soundness of all state-chartered banks and independent non-depository trust companies.

Job Overview
The Risk Analyst evaluates the condition of assigned institutions and serves as a strategic partner and primary point of contact with bank officials and directorates. The position works collectively with Department staff to employ regulatory balance, promote economic development, and encourage innovation in the Divisions supervisory activities of regulated institutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as a strategic partner with bank officials and directorates to promote economic development as well as ensure practices, plans, and policies are in compliance with federal and state laws, rules, and regulations governing financial institutions
  • Analyze, investigate and review bank processes, policies, financial trends, technical processes, procedures and activities
  • Prepares reports and submits to the Chief Examiner, Assistant Commissioner, and/or Commissioner
  • Continually monitors and evaluates the financial condition of assigned institutions through off-site monitoring, reviewing Reports of Examination and other supervisory documents prepared by Department staff, and information submitted by institution management
  • Facilitates open discussion with federal counterparts, Department staff, and regulated institutions to ensure a balanced regulatory approach is employed
  • Develops and recommends informal and formal plans and programs designed to address deficiencies and risks
  • Communicates with bank officials and directorates to implement recommended plans
  • Oversees the investigation and analysis needed to assist in the approval of any proposed and/or submitted applications for new services, or branches
  • Prepares written responses to inquiries and requests from institutions.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in finance, accounting and/or other related field with a minimum of five years of bank examination experience with a federal or state regulator. A minimum of nine (9) hours of accounting or finance required. A minimum of five years of supervisory, team leader or EIC experience. Successful completion of all core bank examination schools required. Valid motor vehicle license required.
