Role Summary:

The Bartender is responsible for preparing & serving cocktails and non-alcoholic beverages for guests in a courteous and efficient manner. The Bartender delivers prompt, courteous service in a manner that complies with beverage standards and company policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

All duties and responsibilities are to be performed in accordance with the National Hotel quality of service standards, and policies and procedures. Associates will be required to learn other functions in an effort to attain cross training skill sets that will help grow the overall knowledge of the Guest experience expectations.

As someone who has a passion for people, and enjoys a fast-paced environment, a core duty for all Associates is effectively multi-tasking, a quintessential factor to the success of their role.

  • Take drink orders from guests and serve drinks.
  • Mix ingredients, such as liquor, soda, water, sugar, and bitters to prepare cocktails and other drinks according to standard recipe.
  • Serve wine and draft or bottled beer.
  • Collect money for drinks served.
  • Adhere to the proper par stock ordering procedures.
  • Complete and oversee set-up and clearing of the bar area.
  • Monitor and train apprentices.
  • Plan, organize, and control the operations of a cocktail lounge or bar.
  • Ensure maximum guest satisfaction while maintaining smooth running operation.
  • Maintain physical appearance of the bar/lounge area.
  • Tent cards, special boards and/or descriptions should be accurate and posted in an area that is visible and legible.
  • Constantly check drink quality, consistency and presentation coming from all bars.
  • Be familiar with clients so that there is constant recognition of all repeat guests.
  • All lights and music adjusted appropriately.
  • Maintain and contribute to the skills, morale, and attitude of the staff.
  • Be familiar with all beverages related procedures and equipment and assist the cashier when needed.
  • Know and adhere to all emergency procedures and work to prevent accidents.
  • Collect money for drinks served.
  • Balance cash receipts.
  • Attempt to limit problems and liability related to customers' excessive drinking by taking steps such as persuading customers to stop drinking or ordering taxis or other transportation for intoxicated patrons.
  • Clean glasses, utensils, and bar equipment.
  • Take beverage orders from serving staff or directly from patrons.
  • Serve wine and bottled or draft beer.
  • Clean bars, work areas, and tables.
  • Mix ingredients, such as liquor, soda, water, sugar, and bitters, to prepare cocktails and other drinks.
  • Serve snacks or food items to customers seated at the bar.
  • Order or requisition liquors and supplies.
  • Ask customers who become loud and obnoxious to leave, or physically remove them.
  • Slice and pit fruit for garnishing drinks.
  • Supervise the work of bar staff and other bartenders.
  • Arrange bottles and glasses to make attractive displays.
  • Plan bar menus.
  • Create drink recipes.
  • You may be required and scheduled to work banquet or special events, which may be outside of your normal responsibilities and working hours and department.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • Must have completed High School or GED Diploma: Studying or just graduated from Hospitality Management, bachelor's degree level or equivalent in any related field such as Administration or Tourism Management.
  • Experience in Hospitality, preferably in a five-star international hotel.
  • Able to apply theory into practice and make improvements to the operations.
  • Some Knowledge of flare bartending skills.
  • Knowledge of all liquor laws and regulations concerning the service of alcoholic beverages.
  • Strong knowledge of wines and spirits.
  • Service oriented.
  • Must be able to work holidays and weekends.
  • Strong business communication skills.
  • Long hours are sometimes required.
  • Must have a professional attitude, especially when dealing with high-end customers.
  • Must be able to handle multiple banquet functions that could be occurring at the same time.
  • Ability to perform basic math skills.
  • Ability to handle money and make correct changes.
  • Ability to read, writes, and understands English. Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff.
  • Knowledge, understanding, and compliance of policies and procedures, job descriptions, daily memorandums, chemical labels, and other instructions.

Safety Requirements:

All Associates are required to abide by all Safety rules and ensure they perform each task by practicing safe work habits. Any associate who incurs any type of injury is required to report immediately to their immediate supervisor or the Security Officer on duty.

Language Requirements:

  • Ability to speak English clearly, distinctly and cordially with guests.
  • Ability to read and write English in order to understand and interpret written procedures. This includes the ability to give and receive instructions in written and verbal forms.
  • Proficiency in effectively presenting information and responding to questions from guests, supervisors and co-workers.
  • Ability to speak additional languages such as Spanish, French or German is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit for long periods of time, stand, walk; full dexterity in use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
