General Responsibilities:

The Network Administrator is the primary owner of the organization's network infrastructure, responsible for designing, implementing, securing, and supporting enterprise switching, routing, wireless, and VoIP systems. This role operates independently, ensuring a secure, reliable, and scalable network environment.

Essential Job Functions:

Network Infrastructure

  • Administer all network equipment including Cisco Meraki switches/APs and Juniper core switches.
  • Design, configure, and maintain LAN/WAN environments, routing (BGP, EIGRP, OSPF), and core protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SNMP).
  • Manage Meraki Dashboard for monitoring, configuration, and firmware updates.
  • Maintain VLANs, ACLs, network segmentation, and performance optimization.
  • Conduct proactive monitoring and troubleshooting to maintain network availability.

Wireless Administration

  • Deploy and optimize Meraki wireless across multiple sites.
  • Troubleshoot wireless connectivity, roaming, and authentication issues.
  • Manage guest networks and captive portal configurations.

VoIP & Unified Communications

  • Administer VoIP systems, call routing, voice quality, and integration.
  • Support endpoints including physical phones and softphones.
  • Coordinate with telecom carriers for circuits and PSTN services.

Network Security

  • Implement security controls and best practices aligned to NIST/CIS frameworks.
  • Manage firewalls, VPNs, NAC, and 802.1X/RADIUS authentication.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity resources on vulnerability remediation.
  • Conduct periodic network security assessments.

Monitoring & Troubleshooting

  • Use tools such as SolarWinds and Wireshark for performance analysis and diagnostics.
  • Troubleshoot complex routing/switching issues independently.
  • Document recurring issues and maintain a knowledge base.

Documentation & Change Management

  • Maintain accurate network diagrams, IP schemas, VLAN maps, and configuration standards.
  • Manage network device inventory, licensing, and support contracts.
  • Follow change-control procedures for all production modifications.
  • Maintain standard operating procedures and configuration backups.

Business Continuity

  • Maintain DR plans and participate in testing.
  • Configure redundant paths, failover mechanisms, and routine config backups.
  • Support emergency response and outage restoration as needed.

General Responsibilities

  • Participate in on-call rotation.
  • Work with ISPs/telecom providers to resolve circuit issues.
  • Provide input on network roadmaps, budget planning, and emerging technologies.
  • Support DNS/DHCP services related to network operations.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and internal security policies.
  • Perform duties safely and follow organizational procedures.

Education:
  • Bachelors in IT, Computer Science, Network Engineering OR
  • Associate degree with relevant certifications/experience OR
  • Equivalent professional experience.
Certifications
Valid Driver's License required CCNA (or equivalent vendor-neutral with Cisco experience) required CCNP, CMSS, Juniper JNCIA/JNCIS, Collaboration/VoIP certifications, Network+, Security+, CyberOps Associate., preferred Experience:

Required

  • 5+ years enterprise network administration.
  • 3+ years switching/wireless management.
  • Hands-on Cisco configuration and troubleshooting.
  • VoIP support experience.
  • Ability to function as the primary network resource.

Preferred

  • Meraki cloud-managed networking.
  • Juniper Junos OS exposure.
  • Prior lead or sole network admin role.
  • Network security implementation experience.

Technical Skills

  • Strong routing/switching (BGP, OSPF, VLANs, STP, port security).
  • Cisco Meraki, Cisco IOS, and Juniper Junos OS proficiency.
  • Network security fundamentals, firewalls, VPN, NAC/802.1X.
  • Monitoring tools (SolarWinds/PRTG) and packet capture analysis.
  • Working knowledge of AD, DNS/DHCP, RADIUS, VMware/virtual networking, and basic cloud networking concepts.
