Job OverviewWe are looking for a detail-oriented and proactive Indirect Tax Manager to oversee and manage our company's indirect tax functions. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with various indirect tax regulations, including sales and use tax, value-added tax (VAT), and other state and local taxes (SALT). This role requires a deep understanding of indirect tax laws, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities- Indirect Tax Compliance:
- Manage and oversee the preparation and timely filing of all indirect tax returns, including sales and use tax, VAT, and other relevant state and local tax returns.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of all indirect tax filings and payments.
- Develop and implement processes to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of indirect tax compliance activities.
- Stay current with changes in indirect tax laws and regulations, and implement necessary updates to compliance procedures.
- Tax Planning and Strategy:
- Collaborate with senior management to develop and implement indirect tax strategies that align with the company's overall business objectives.
- Identify opportunities for tax savings and process improvements related to indirect taxes.
- Provide guidance on the indirect tax implications of business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, and restructurings.
- Develop and maintain indirect tax models to support business decision-making processes.
- Audit Management:
- Manage and coordinate indirect tax audits conducted by various tax authorities.
- Prepare audit defense strategies and represent the company during audit proceedings.
- Negotiate with tax authorities to resolve audit issues and minimize potential tax liabilities.
- Implement post-audit recommendations to improve compliance and reduce future audit risks.
- Risk Management:
- Identify and assess indirect tax risks associated with the company's operations and transactions.
- Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to address potential indirect tax exposures.
- Conduct regular reviews of indirect tax processes and controls to ensure compliance and minimize risks.
- Provide recommendations for process improvements and system enhancements to strengthen the company's indirect tax function.
- Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead and mentor a team of indirect tax professionals, providing guidance and support in their day-to-day activities.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development within the indirect tax team.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Collaborate with HR to recruit and retain top talent for the indirect tax function.
- Cross-functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with finance, accounting, legal, and operations teams to ensure proper indirect tax treatment of transactions.
