General Description and Classification Standards:

Disinfects new and relined water mains and storage tanks, investigates complaints concerning water quality, and routinely flushes distribution system fire hydrants for water quality.

Supervision Received:

This employee will often work independently or with a small team to complete tasks after receiving training. This employee will report to a supervisor and receive training from their supervisor and may also shadow peers for experience. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.

  • Consults customers about water quality in their businesses and residences; investigates and takes action to resolve complaints such as discoloration, taste/odor, and air in the line.
  • Collects and analyzes representative water samples.
  • Tests treated water to check for appropriate chlorine levels.
  • Operates water line valves and fire hydrants to ensure proper water flow.
  • Operates and maintains portable chemical feed equipment to ensure proper dosage of chemical solutions.
  • Reviews plat cards and as-built plans.
  • Ensure job site is safe and equipment is operated in a safe manner.
  • Wears all required PPE while performing tasks.
  • Assists in training new employees.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic computer skills (Word processing, e-mail, Microsoft Office).
  • Ability to drive and navigate to different job sites, operate equipment, lift and reach, interpret maps and diagrams, document work using written or digital forms. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience – High school diploma, or equivalent and three (3) years of water quality/purification or distribution experience.

Licensures and Certifications – Valid Georgia driver's license. Must obtain a valid Georgia Water Distribution license within one year of employment.

Preferred Requirements – None.

Work Environment:

Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions associated with job.

Lifting Requirements: 

Medium work:  Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
