The Role

The Senior Business Development Engineer (Project Development Engineer) is a key client-facing role responsible for identifying, pursuing, and developing new project opportunities in the power sector within GSI's core geotechnical markets. This position blends engineering expertise, client relationship management, and commercial acumen to deliver solutions that protect critical infrastructure and drive company growth.

As part of GSI's project pursuit team, you'll collaborate with operations, design, and estimating teams to translate complex geotechnical challenges into innovative, buildable, and profitable solutions. You will own client relationships from lead generation through project conversion, ensuring each opportunity aligns with both client needs and company strategy.

This is a high-impact role ideal for an experienced professional who thrives in a consultative, fast-paced, and entrepreneurial environment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute strategic account plans to meet sales targets and growth objectives.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities with existing and prospective clients.
  • Build and maintain trusted relationships with key decision-makers and stakeholders in client organizations.
  • Lead client meetings and negotiations, understanding technical requirements and proposing effective solutions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, estimating, and field operations to develop winning proposals.
  • Monitor market trends, competitive activity, and industry developments to identify new opportunities and risks.
  • Provide accurate forecasting and reporting of project pipeline and account performance.
  • Structure pricing, promotions, and contracts that balance client value with disciplined margin performance.
  • Resolve project or account-related challenges quickly, maintaining strong customer satisfaction and partnership continuity.
  • Stay current on geotechnical and infrastructure market dynamics to identify opportunities for expansion, upselling, or cross-selling.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in a B2B, consultative technical sales or account management environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading complex projects or accounts from concept to completion.
  • Proven ability to influence internal and external stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience in deal-making and contract negotiation.
  • Experience with geohazards in the power sector.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of geotechnical construction, infrastructure development, or related industries.

  • Exceptional focus on understanding customer needs and proactively delivering solutions.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Self-starter mentality with high learning agility and intellectual curiosity.

  • Prior experience with CRM systems (Salesforce, Zendesk, etc.).

  • PE license highly preferred but not required.

Work Environment & Location Requirement

  • Ability to physically make field visits, walk steep slopes, and traverse geohazards during site assessments.
  • Candidates must be based in Texas, preferably in the Austin, TX metro area.
  • Company-sponsored travel required: approximately 50% regionally, including regular customer site visits and occasional overnight trips.

This role will be remote from Texas, with a preference to be based in Austin, TX with heavy company-sponsored travel.

The expected annual on-target earnings for this position in TX is $150,000 - $175,000, including a base salary range of $95,000 - $105,000. Salary ranges are dependent on a variety of factors, including qualifications, experience and geographic location. Range is not inclusive of potential bonus or benefits.
