Remote, Oregon, United States Samsara Full time

About the role:

The mobile connectivity platform team owns the BLE implementation on all Samsara products. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team to build and own the platform on our mobile products: Samsara Driver and Samsara Fleet.

These products support our customers across their entire organization and power their most critical tasks, helping frontline workers and administrators be more efficient when they're on the go. Over the next few years, we'll be rapidly adding new unique experiences and products to our portfolio, which means that our mobile products will become even more critical and need to expand to support millions of users. You will be responsible for the end-to-end success of new products and features that delight our customers and further Samsara's vision.

We use React Native, Typescript, Redux, and GraphQL for our mobile apps, Golang for our backend, and C and Golang for our firmware.

This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the United States. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.

You should apply if:

  • You want to impact the industries that run our world: Your efforts will result in real-world impact—helping to keep the lights on, get food into grocery stores, reduce emissions, and most importantly, ensure workers return home safely.
  • You are the architect of your own career: If you put in the work, this role won't be your last at Samsara. We set up our employees for success and have built a culture that encourages rapid career development, countless opportunities to experiment and master your craft in a hyper growth environment.
  • You're energized by our opportunity: The vision we have to digitize large sectors of the global economy requires your full focus and best efforts to bring forth creative, ambitious ideas for our customers.
  • You want to be with the best: At Samsara, we win together, celebrate together and support each other. You will be surrounded by a high-calibre team that will encourage you to do your best.

In this role, you will:

  • Help shape the future of our mobile apps by architecting and implementing a connectivity platform for Android and iOS that unlocks product features and delights our customers.
  • Work closely with the rest of the mobile team to improve our application architecture and development processes.
  • Partner with firmware and backend engineers on the design of the overall connectivity architecture to ensure seamless integration with our hardware products.
  • Collaborate with full-stack engineers to guide them through mobile-specific concerns as they plan and build customer-facing features.
  • Ensure a top-quality developer experience by improving the reliability and usability of our continuous integration, metrics collection, and mobile build systems.
  • Leverage your experience to mentor junior developers and level up the team.
  • Produce high-quality, maintainable code, test, collaboratively review, and ship it.
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara's cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices.

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience in mobile development for Android and/or iOS.
  • Has built and shipped high-quality production mobile applications using either native or React Native frameworks.
  • 3+ years of professional experience building BLE-enabled mobile applications to interface with hardware products.
  • Experience building and using observability tools, frameworks, and standards.
  • Strong leadership skills driving projects and working cross-functionally.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive independent work.
  • Passion for exploring and experimenting with new technologies that improve our products for customers.

An ideal candidate also has:

  • Experience leading projects from concept to launch.
  • Ownership mentality.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to work autonomously to figure things out.

At Samsara, we welcome all. All sizes, colors, cultures, sexes, beliefs, religions, ages, people. We depend on the unique approaches of our team members to help us solve complex problems. We are committed to increasing diversity across our team and ensuring that Samsara is a place where people from all backgrounds can make an impact.
