Position Summary:

The Swimming Program Director oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of all swimming programs and aquatic activities. This includes swim lessons, competitive teams, safety training, and recreational swim offerings. The Director ensures all programs are safe, well-staffed, compliant with regulations, and aligned with the organization's mission and goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development & Management:

  • Design, implement, and manage swim programs for all ages and skill levels (e.g., lessons, lifeguard training, water aerobics, swim teams).
  • Evaluate and update curriculum to meet industry standards and community needs.
  • Monitor program participation and adjust schedules or offerings to maximize engagement.

Staff Supervision:

  • Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate swim instructors, lifeguards, and other aquatic staff.
  • Ensure all staff maintain proper certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid, Lifeguarding).
  • Conduct regular staff meetings, in-service training, and performance evaluations.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Enforce safety standards and ensure compliance with local, state, and national aquatic regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of certifications, attendance, incidents, and inspections.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness procedures and respond to incidents when necessary.

Customer Service & Communication:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for parents, swimmers, and community members.
  • Address concerns, questions, and feedback in a timely and professional manner.
  • Promote programs through outreach, social media, and community events.

Facility & Equipment Oversight:

  • Work with maintenance staff to ensure pool cleanliness, chemical balance, and equipment functionality.
  • Coordinate usage schedules to avoid conflicts between programs and general swim time.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Recreation, Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in aquatics, including leadership or supervisory roles.
  • Current certifications:
  • Lifeguard Certification (e.g., American Red Cross, YMCA, Ellis & Associates)
  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) preferred
  • Lifeguard Instructor certification a plus
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
  • Proficiency in scheduling, budgeting, and using recreational management software.

Working Conditions:

  • Indoor pool environments.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and exposure to wet, humid conditions and pool chemicals.
  • May require lifting equipment or assisting swimmers in emergency situations.

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $46, $56,060.11 per year

Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
