Job Overview:
The Electrical Test Technician 1 will perform testing and troubleshooting of Power Distribution Equipment and related components. This role ensures quality workmanship, reliability, and a safe working environment in all test areas.
Key Responsibilities:
· Test and verify the performance and functionality of power distribution equipment and assemblies using multimeters, current meters, HI-POT testers, phase rotation meters, and other test instruments.
· Conduct factory testing on PDUs, switchgear, STS, Databar product line, and perform injection testing.
· Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, diagrams, or technical orders to determine assembly methods and sequences, ensuring compliance with product specifications.
· Follow inspection and testing procedures, adjustment methods, and certification processes accurately.
· Record and manage test data using computers and software tools, including Modbus Poll, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word and Excel, web interfaces, and other specialized programs.
· Inspect all incoming electrical equipment to the test areas for quality and functionality.
· Prepare technical reports and perform Factory Acceptance Tests.
· Verify and install revolving cable layouts for different projects.
· Perform necessary repairs or escalate test issues to the supervisor for further diagnosis.
· Collaborate with other departments to ensure adherence to company product specifications or assist with manufacturing needs.
· Report defective materials or safety concerns to the Test Department Supervisor.
· Maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment within all test areas.
Qualifications:
· High School Diploma or GED with 1–2 years of practical experience testing low-voltage distribution systems; or
· Two-year technical degree in electronics, engineering, or a related field preferred; or
· Military experience and training in electronics, electricity, engineering, or related fields.
· Experience with L/V switchgear, power distribution units, remote power panels, static switches, and powered busway systems preferred.
· Familiarity with data center or mission-critical systems preferred.
· Knowledge of electrical safety protocols and codes such as NFPA 70E, NEC, UL, and IEC.
· Understanding of 3-phase power, DC power, AC/DC power distribution, and electrical power generation.
· Ability to recognize hazardous conditions before testing.
· Proficiency in troubleshooting at the circuit board and component level.
· Skilled in using a wide variety of hand tools and test equipment.
· Ability to read schematics and technical drawings.
· Competency in computer use for data logging and reporting.
· Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
· Ability to read, write, and communicate in English effectively.
· Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.
