Job Description:

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW Are you a dynamic fundraising leader with a passion for building lasting relationships and driving impact? We're seeking a Chief Development Officer (CDO) to lead strategic fundraising efforts across the Pacific Islands. This role is pivotal in cultivating donor partnerships, guiding development staff and volunteers, and growing a sustainable revenue base to support life-changing services in our island communities.   • Lead Fundraising Strategy: Develop and execute annual and multi-year fundraising plans to meet and exceed a regional revenue target of up to $10M.
  • Grow Donor Relationships: Personally manage a portfolio of major donors and prospects, making direct solicitations and stewarding long-term partnerships.
  • Drive Community Engagement: Cultivate relationships with corporations, foundations, and individual donors across the Pacific Islands region, reflecting the diversity and values of the Pacific Islands.
  • Empower Volunteer Leadership: Serve as the primary liaison for the Board's Philanthropy Committee, orienting and supporting members in their fundraising roles.
  • Manage and Mentor: Lead a high-performing development team, overseeing hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Collaborate for Impact: Partner with national headquarters and division teams to align fundraising efforts and maximize opportunities.
  • Ensure Operational Excellence: Oversee campaign implementation, reporting, and resource allocation to meet strategic goals.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 7 years of progressive fundraising leadership experience, including major gifts, corporate partnerships, and campaign strategy.
  • Management: At least 5 years of experience managing teams and driving performance.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Proven ability to engage in diverse constituencies and build trust-based relationships.
    • Familiarity with fundraising systems (e.g., Raiser's Edge, Salesforce).
    • Strong strategic thinking and data-driven decision-making.
    • Cultural competency and sensitivity to Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander communities.
    • Valid driver's license and ability to travel frequently across the islands.

Major Gifts Expertise

  • Experience developing and executing multi-year major gift strategies aligned with organizational goals.

Portfolio Management

  • Demonstrated success managing a high-value donor portfolio (e.g., 100+ prospects) with strategic segmentation and prioritization.

Leadership & Strategy

  • Experience leading development teams, including gift officers, support staff, and volunteers.

Regional & Cultural Awareness

  • Familiarity with Hawaiian cultural values, local philanthropic landscape, and community-based fundraising approaches.

The salary range for this position is: $ 128,000 - $140,000. You will be eligible to participate in an incentive plan based on annual individual and organization performance. This role is NOT eligible for relocation. This role is NOT eligible for relocation.Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. This job will be posted for a minimum of five business days and extended if the applicant pool needs to be expanded. Physical Requirements: Physical requirements are those present in normal office environment conditions. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software, and office equipment for sustained periods of time.
