DCHUX Surgery Center is a privately held, state-of-the-art, multi-specialty ambulatory surgery center located in downtown Washington, DC. The center provides advanced orthopedic, neuro, and regenerative procedures with a focus on patient safety, quality outcomes, and compliance with all federal and District of Columbia healthcare regulations.

Position Summary

DCHUX Surgery Center is seeking an experienced and licensed Consultant Pharmacist to oversee and advise on medication management, regulatory compliance, and best practices in pharmaceutical care within the ambulatory surgery center environment. The Consultant Pharmacist will work collaboratively with medical and administrative staff to ensure the highest standards of patient safety, regulatory adherence, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct quarterly on-site inspections at DCHUX Surgery Center.
  • Monitor and review drug utilization, ensuring full compliance with District of Columbia laws, facility policies, and accreditation standards.
  • Provide drug information, consultation, and staff education as needed.
  • Participate in committees related to medication management, patient safety, and quality improvement.
  • Develop, maintain, and update pharmacy-related policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the procurement of pharmaceuticals and related supplies, optimizing cost-effectiveness and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure that all documentation meets DC Board of Pharmacy and federal requirements.

Qualifications

  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Active DC Pharmacist License in good standing.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in pharmacy consulting, ambulatory surgery, or hospital settings.
  • Thorough understanding of DC Board of Pharmacy and federal regulations applicable to ambulatory care facilities.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and adherence to HIPAA standards.

Compensation and Terms

  • Rate: $70 per hour.
  • Compensation paid upon submission of an invoice detailing hours worked and services rendered.
  • Additional work outside of scheduled quarterly visits must be pre-approved by DCHUX administration.
  • Independent Contractor status – responsible for own licensure, taxes, and professional liability insurance.
  • Initial Term: One (1) year, renewable annually by mutual agreement.
  • Either party may terminate with 30 days' written notice.
