What you will be doing
Working in this position you will provide technical and administrative support for the State of Alaska's Board of Nursing. The incumbent will work on a wide variety of interesting processes using many forms of technology, proprietary software, applications, and media designed specifically for the professional licensing unit.
This position is a great stepping stone position into state employment and offers great opportunities to develop your administrative knowledge and functional skills.

The working conditions you can expect
This position is part of the board of nursing and is located on the 15th floor of the Atwood Building, allowing an unobstructed view of downtown Anchorage and surrounding mountains throughout the office.
Workstations include ergonomic lifting desk tops. The daily work environment is fast paced and can be stressful as priorities can change rapidly. Working in the office is required; however an alternative 4-day work schedule may be offered to suitable candidates after the probationary period has been successfully completed.

Desired traits we are looking for
- Intermediate working knowledge of Adobe, MS Word, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.
- Previous experience handling sensitive or confidential documents and information.
- Previous experience simultaneously working on multiple diverse projects; while providing quality products, meeting deadlines, and managing time efficiently.
- Exceptional organizational skills.
- The ability to self-motivate, work independently, and communicate effectively in a team environment.
Special Notice
Please document, if any, your experience creating and maintaining documents and data using computer skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe in the duties section(s) of your work history along with work that required attention to detail and application of policy and procedure, as this is a major component of being successful in this position.
While this type of work is not required, it is preferred. Ability to provide customer service is paramount to being successful in this position.
Minimum Qualifications
Six months of advanced clerical experience. This experience includes work such as Office Assistant 2, Accounting Clerk, and similar classes with the State of Alaska or the equivalent with another employer.
OR
Six months of any combination of post-secondary education, vocational education, and/or advanced-level clerical experience. (Three semester or four quarter hours of post-secondary education are equal to one month of experience; 150 hours of vocational education are equal to one month of experience.)
Special Note
Examples of advanced clerical experience include
- Reviewing complex or questionable applications or documents and searching files and regulations to determine accuracy of information to clarify applicant status; using judgment in applying criteria, rules, regulations, and policies; providing information to organizational unit staff on administrative processes and procedures; tracking expenditures; and completing necessary administrative paperwork according to regulations.
- Composing letters and memoranda; completing and reviewing forms for completeness and accuracy using readily available information from multiple sources and established guidelines and procedures. Examples of such tasks include time sheets, appointment paperwork, or required drug testing notifications for employees in positions requiring possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
Additional Required Information

- A list of three (3) professional references (must be former/current supervisor), one of which should be your most recent supervisor, including name, job title, employer, and current phone number(s) if not already attached to your application.
- A copy of your last three (3) performance evaluations, or two (2) letters of reference if evaluations are unavailable and not already attached to your application.
EDUCATION
If post-secondary education is required to meet the minimum qualifications, you must fill in the Education section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of units completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials if used to meet the minimum qualifications for a position. Transcripts can be attached at the time of application or provided at the time of interview.
Work Experience
If using work experience not already documented in your application, also provide the employer name, your job title, dates of employment, and whether full-or part-time.
